The Great British Sewing Bee’s Esme Young looks so different in epic throwback to younger years

Esme Young is a regular on our screens as a judge on BBC One’s The Great British Stitch Bee.

As fans of the touching reality show know, Esme is a renowned fashion designer who co-founded the successful fashion brand Swanky Modes in the 1970s.

Reminiscing about her younger days on Instagram, the TV presenter shared a snap of Esme posing amazingly alongside her two Swanky Modes co-owners, Judy Dewsbury and Melanie Herberfield.

Though the fashion guru is known for her signature gray bob and sleek straight buns, she couldn’t be more different than in the snap.

Footage shows the TV star wearing a pink and gold mini dress, paired with glittering gold heels and matching leggings, with light brown curls falling over her shoulders.

Esme, who sewed her first dress when she was seven years old, captioned the photo: “Judy, Mel and me. Where’s Willie?”

Fans were quick to compliment the amazing snap, with one person writing: “Amazing”, while another added: “Awesome!! Love those tights.”

A third fan commented: “Love this. Awesome. What a style.”

Esme, Judy, Melanie and their fashion enthusiast friend Willie Walters founded Swanky Modes in a boutique in Camden Town during the 1970s.

It didn’t take long for the label to become famous thanks to its celebrity clients, including Grace Jones and Cher. Their clothes quickly began appearing in magazines and newspapers such as Vogue, The Sunday Times, Nova, Honey and V&A Little Black Dress Book. Their designs have also been captured by renowned photographers including David Bailey, Helmut Newton, Nick Knight, John Swannell and Neil Kirk.

Esme’s designs have also appeared on the big screen, including in The Beach, Diary of Bridget Jones, Romeo and JulietIn 2011 Storm altitude And detected train.

In an interview with RTE, Esme revealed that she was the brains behind Renee Zellweger’s iconic Tarts and Vicars bunny outfit.

“Renee wanted the bunny smaller because her figure wasn’t thin,” she added, “She really wanted cleavage so the outfit lifted her breasts up. She could barely sit up. get in there because it’s too tight.”

Esme was a judge on the show alongside Patrick Grant, while comedian Sara Pascoe replaced Joe Lycett as host on season eight.
