The Jeffersons Star Marla Gibbs Wows on the Emmys Red Carpet at Age 92!

Marla Gibbs showed everyone what it means to be a knockout on the Emmy Awards red carpet.

The The Jeffersons and 227 star, 92, wowed in a long-sleeved black velvet dress on the carpet on Monday night, complete with a train and sparkling jeweled embellishments.

The five-time Emmy nominee was joined by Emmy winner Quinto Brunson from Abbott Elementary School award for Supporting Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie, nominated for Annaleigh Ashford, Camila Morrone, Claire Danes, Juliette Lewis, Maria Bello, Merritt Wever and Niecy Nash-Betts.

When the actresses took the stage, Gibbs received a standing ovation from the audience. Brunson said she was thrilled to be presenting alongside someone whose career has “literally spanned decades,” she said. Brunson, 34, then asked her what was the secret of staying in it for so long.

And Gibbs proved why she’s so good at what she does: she showed her humor.

“That’s easy, honey: the pay gap,” she replied, to big laughs from the crowd. Gibbs went on to tell Brunson that he would have to work “another 20 years” before he could retire, but if Abbott Elementary School a writer and star would create a role for her, it might work. She finished with a joke: “Black don’t shoot!”

Gibbs was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series every year from 1981 to 1985 for her role in The Jeffersons. She starred in the cult series as the no-nonsense maid Florence Johnston alongside Isabel Sanford and Sherman Hemsley.

The actress received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2021 — and that’s when she made a style statement. She wore a flowing red floral dress for the occasion, and the only thing that stood out about her appearance more than the dress was the bright smile on her face.
