The Kids of CoComelon Lane Have a ‘Magic’ Day — Including a Big First — in New Trailer from Netflix

CoComelon lead your young fans on a new exciting adventure!

The popular Netflix animated series for preschoolers is set to premiere a spinoff series next month CoComelon Lane. In a major development, the series will include the characters JJ and best friends Cody, CeCe, Nina, Nico and Bella speaking directly to the audience for the first time.

Using music, learning and humour, the nine-episode, narrative-driven series will see children grapple with new experiences and milestones such as getting their first haircut and preparing a special meal with their grandfather.

Each episode will follow the same structure, with preschoolers encountering a big moment – and the big emotion that comes with it. Then JJ and his friends will engage in a “pretend” sequence.

“Together, they will imagine a BIG moment scenario as JJ ‘paints’ what they imagine,” Netflix teased in a post.

The trailer for the new series teases one of the big life milestones one of the kids will face — their first school bus ride.

“We’re all waiting for the school bus. Today is Nina’s first bus ride,” JJ says of her friend, who at first reacts with an excited squeal before showing some nervousness.

Led by JJ, the group begins imagining what the bus ride will be like to prepare Nina for the new experience. Using his magical “ladybug light”, JJ visually depicts an imaginary scenario for his friends and the viewers who follow him.

With the help and guidance of various caregivers, JJ and his friends will be taught to name and validate the emotions they feel. They will learn a strategy for dealing with each emotion through a lesson woven into a customized nursery rhyme, CoComelon a classic tune or a new original song.

CoComelon Lane is designed for children and parents to watch together to encourage conversations and foster social-emotional learning. According to a statement, the new series “aims to partner with parents who want to model ways for preschoolers to understand and regulate the emotions they may feel about new experiences.”

CoComelon Lane also explores the theme of community and family as children form deeper personal connections with their loved ones and community members. The show’s musical moments reinforce key preschool foundations such as expressing gratitude and empathy, learning new skills, and managing emotions.

“JJ has been the best friend of millions of children around the world ever since CoComelon made its debut,” Netflix VP of Animated Series John Derderian said in a statement. “We can’t wait for old and new fans to join JJ and his friends CoComelon Lane as they visit new places, learn new lessons and experience some of their first big moments on Netflix this fall.”

The series builds on the huge success of the original CoComelon, which first debuted in 2020. Last year, the series was named Nielsen’s third most-watched title of 2022, with 37.8 billion minutes watched, according to Netflix. It is on track to tie the record for most consecutive weeks at the top of the stream, which it currently holds Grey’s Anatomy at 144 weeks.
