king of queensIt was a popular sitcom that ran for just over 10 years and helped launch the careers of Leah Remini and Kevin James. The film revolves around newlyweds Doug played by Kevin James and Carrie played by Leah Remini. Doug and Carrie live a relatively peaceful life until Carrie’s father Arthur (played by Jerry Stiller) moves into their home. When Arthur enters the picture, he wreaks havoc on everyone’s lives and clashes with Doug in the most hilarious way possible.
While the film has given fans plenty of good laughs, there are also hidden details about the character that they might miss unless they’re specifically looking for them. Some of these details don’t make sense either.
Spence is allergic to peanuts, but he eats peanut M&Ms
In Season 4, Episode 4, “Friender Bender”, Spence is babysitting Deacon and Kelly’s baby. When Kirby found out Spencer was allergic to peanuts, he mocked him for it.
Then Spence tries to explain his allergy. However, earlier in the show, that’s clearly not the same thing. In Season 1, Episode 4, “Richie’s Song”, Spence ate an expired peanut M&M he found in Doug’s car. When Spence asked Doug if they were Peanut M&Ms, Doug said yes and Spence still ate them. So, is Spence allergic?
doug’s uniform is too tight
According to an interview with Kevin James, he hates wearing the IPS uniform because it is too tight. In fact, he sometimes asked the producers if he could skip the uniform, even when he was at work.
Viewers can see this closeness in many scenes where he is driving a truck. Or any scene where he has to flex his body. In real life, the company will give him a size that really fits him. It’s really uncomfortable after working like that for a while.
Continuity error in the story of how Doug and Carrie met
The story of Doug (one of Kevin James’ best TV characters) and Carrie’s first meeting takes a twist. In some episodes, they talk about how they met in middle school. There was an episode of “Their Song” on TV and Carrie commented that they would dance to it as children.
But then, in a flashback in another episode, Carrie runs into Doug at a bar where he works as a security guard. Rich tells Doug that he has met a girl, whom he introduces as Carrie, and plans a double date. The couple’s date didn’t work out and Carrie eventually left. In the end, Doug tries to get back with Carrie and asks her to give him another chance.
In one episode, Spence stood motionless for three minutes
in an appearance Late Night with Jimmy Fallon In 2011, Patton Oswalt pointed out this gem. In one of the opening scenes of season eight, episode 19, “Emotional Roller Coaster,” Spencer stood motionless for about three minutes.
The setting is Doug’s 40th birthday party. Apparently, the whole thing was a hoax. Oswalt stated that all of the writers on the show were major addicts and thought it would be odd to include them to see if anyone noticed. Turns out, people were paying attention.
Carrie’s sister may or may not exist
Sarah Spooner, Carrie’s sister, appeared in the first six episodes of the first season. Played by Lisa Rieffel, she is an aspiring young actress who doesn’t know how to shoulder the responsibility. Later, however, the film calls Carrie an only child, avoiding “Carrie’s older sister in king of queens? ‘
In season three, Doug mentions Carrie’s sister again, but that’s the only time she admits it. At the time, Doug didn’t even say her name, only saying that Carrie’s sister had an event so he could run away with someone else. According to Kevin James, the producers had no idea for her character, and she simply disappeared. Likewise, Carrie has things that don’t make sense.
richie quietly disappeared from the show
During the first few seasons, Doug’s relationship with Richie was one of his most enduring friendships. Richie is actually the reason Doug and Carrie met in the first place (though sometimes it turns out that Carrie deserves it more than Doug.) Richie is a firefighter who loves romance with ladies.
However, after the first few seasons, Richie disappeared completely. This disappearance was never acknowledged on screen, leaving viewers wondering “what happened to Richie” King of queens? The real reason it happened was because the actors left the show. Larry Romano, who plays Richie, asked to be released from the show after accepting a role on another sitcom.
Leah Remini is pregnant in the sixth season
During the show’s sixth season, Leah Remini became pregnant. Faced with her growing pregnant belly, the producers decided to let her character lose her job and stay at home all day, eating more and more and gaining weight.
That way, they don’t really have to hide her belly and can refer to her on-screen weight to make it more believable. Pregnancy can be seen in some scenes. In these episodes, she usually wears loose clothing.
Spencer’s mother is recast
king of queens is one of television’s biggest representatives of aging. In the first season, when viewers first meet Spence’s mother, Veronica, and Arthur’s close bond, she’s played by Grace Zabriskie. However, she was recast after that episode.
The actress who replaced her and became synonymous with the character was Anne Meara, who was actually married to Jerry Stiller (Arthur) in real life until her death in 2015. The two are fathers. Ben Stiller’s mother.
Doug was born in Canada
This is a small detail that fans may have overlooked, as it was mentioned in an episode of season five. In episode 23, “Dog Shelter”, Doug and Carrie visit his parents at their Florida home.
Once there, they discover a lot of shocking details about Doug’s childhood. Turns out his parents lied to him to cover things up rather than to deal with confrontation or problem solving. One of the secrets is that Doug was actually born in Canada.
some episodes of Carrie and Doug have a dog
Doug and Carrie adopt a dog named Stanley that once belonged to their obnoxious neighbors, the Sackskys. They were about to leave him, so the Heffernans brought him in.
However, Stanley only appeared for a few episodes before he mysteriously disappeared, never to be seen again. No one recognized the dog anymore.
