Repair Shop viewers had to pick up their tissues during Wednesday night’s episode after Award-winning Poet Simon Armitage put on a moving performance with his band.
The poet brought his precious harmonica, which holds precious memories of his late father Petar, for repair.

The instrument was played at Simon’s childhood church in Marsden, where both he and his father sang in choirs. Simon accepted the harmonium after learning that the church was getting rid of it.
Speaking of his father, Simon said: “He was a very great character, a greater character than in real life. He allowed me to be a creative, artistic person and that worked out in a way. For him, it’s performance, song, acting, for me it’s poetry.”

He continued: “My proudest moment was when I called him to tell him I was going to be the next Poet Laureate. I could hear him crying on the other end of the phone. phone.”
Organ restorer David Burville soon set to work on the mix, and when it was finished, Simon returned to the barn with his band LYR.

The poet marveled at the extraordinary transformation. “It’s great,” he told David and host Jay Blades, saying he hopes to incorporate harmony into his band’s future music.
LYR, consisting of Simon, singer-songwriter Richard Walters and multi-instrumentalist and producer Patrick Pearson, then put on a stunning performance of their track ‘Winter Solstice’. Watch the touching moment in the video below.

Simon isn’t the only famous face to visit the iconic warehouse for the new series. Children’s author Michael Rosen and political activist Patrick Vernon will also appear on the show in two special episodes.
