School timetables in Bangalore: Private schools, traffic police, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation and other stakeholders have decided not to change school timetables in Bangalore. A meeting held on Monday to discuss the revision of school timetables in Bengaluru concluded with a unanimous agreement to retain the current timetable. Currently, public schools start around 9:30am, while private schools start at 8:00am or between 8:30am and 8:45am.

Ritesh Kumar Singh, principal secretary of the school education department, announced, “The proposal to change the timing of school hours was unanimously rejected by all stakeholders. Instead, a joint effort involving the traffic police department, private school management and other stakeholders will focus on reducing traffic congestion. crowds near schools.”

The meeting was held by the Department of School Education and Literacy to discuss the directions given by the Karnataka High Court on the revision of school timetables in Bengaluru city district. Stakeholders included school management, parent organizations, traffic police, transport officials, BMTC and teachers’ associations.

Bus Pooling System in Bangalore

The competent authorities of the private school management have recommended the schools which do not have enough buses in the immediate vicinity to cooperate with the BMTC to implement the bus pooling system. BMTC was proposed to use their buses for one hour each in the morning and afternoon for students from different schools in the same vicinity. It responded positively to the proposal.

Implementation of traffic management measures in Bangalore

The police have identified five hotspots where private vehicles lead to traffic congestion. These are Sarjapur, Adugodi, Hebbal, Silk Board and Central Business District. They decided to map these hotspots and implement traffic control measures.

Additionally, to manage traffic near schools, the police intend to hire more traffic wardens by encouraging parents to volunteer their help. MN Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), suggested integrating lessons on transport and civic awareness into the school curriculum to educate students.
