The View's Sara Haines Reveals She Had a Previous Workplace Romance: 'I Did Dip in the Company Ink'

Sara Haines reflects on her own experience with workplace dating.

On Thursday, May 23, the episode of the series ViewThe 46-year-old television personality recalled dating a co-worker before she married her husband Max Shifrin during a conversation about Donald Trump’s accuser Nathan Wade’s relationship with the Fulton County, Ga., district attorney. Fanny Willis.

“I dipped into company ink when I was single,” Haines admitted. “There are right ways to do it and wrong ways. Don’t do it in a department where there are power dynamics. I dated someone in a completely different wing of the building, I didn’t deal with him every day.”

She continued, “He was a lawyer, so of course, when he told me I had to disclose this to HR, I was like, what? We’re a thing, right?”

Haines’ co-host Sunny Hostin then pressed Haines — who previously worked at NBC before joining ABC in 2013 — about what happened when the romance didn’t work out, asking, “What happens, Sara, when you break up and you both saw each other naked and now you have to walk side by side?”

“Well, office awkwardness isn’t unique to romantic relationships,” Haines replied. “There’s a lot of dynamics in offices that are weird, it’s called being an adult– an adult. It was good, we dated for years, it was great.”

“I don’t know how some people avoid it when you come to a place to work day and night, to try to make a career,” she added. “You’re always with people!”

Following her workplace romance, Haines met her now-husband Shifrin on a dating app after creating a profile for a segment on Good morning America. According to Haines, despite the challenges, she was determined to “participate” in the dating world.

She repeated similar words years later as she sat next to Shifrin as they shared their love story.

“I believe you have to make your own luck, so I thought I’m not going to run into my boo in the produce department or trip over him on the street like all the rom-coms told me I would, so I have to put in some effort,” she said. Yahoo! Lifestyle in 2019

Shifrin, who admittedly had “no idea” who Haines was, came across her profile on OkCupid and the two began dating in 2012. The couple married in 2014 and are now the parents of three children: Alec Richard, Sandra Grace and Caleb Joseph.
