The Weeknd is doing his part to support Los Angeles and its firefighters amid the devastating wildfires in the area.
The 34-year-old music superstar – real name Abel Tesfaye – has pledged to donate $1 million, distributed to three different organizations that aid humanitarian efforts, help firefighters and support those displaced by the wildfires: The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund and LA Regional Food Bank.
According to the press release, the donations are in cooperation with the World Food Program USA and the musician’s XO humanitarian fund.
They follow The Weeknd’s announcement earlier this week that he is canceling his performance at the Rose Bowl and delaying the release of his upcoming album, Hurry up tomorrow“out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County.”

The Weeknd cancels Rose Bowl concert, delays new album ‘Out of Respect and Concern’ amid LA fires
On Monday, January 13th, the Grammy winner announced on social media that his January 25th concert has been canceled and that his album release date has been pushed back to Friday, January 31st.
“This city has always been a deep source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this difficult time. In light of this, I have also decided to move my album release to January 31st,” he wrote. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and helping their amazing people as they rebuild.”
He signed the note: “With love, Abel.”

The Southern California wildfires initially started in the Pacific Palisades on January 7, before multiple fires broke out in the following days — burning more than 40,000 acres, destroying more than 12,000 structures and leading to a total of 25 deaths so far as a result of the fires. fire, according to a Jan. 15 release from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Several other celebrities have pledged to give back amid the tragedy, with Beyoncé donating $2.5 million through her BeyGOOD foundation and Leonardo DiCaprio announcing a $1 million donation in partnership with his organization Re:wild.
On Thursday, January 16, Taylor Swift revealed on Instagram that she’s also donated to several different organizations, including Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, before encouraging fans to also.
“The California wildfires destroyed so many families and it was heartbreaking to see the stories unfold. So much suffering, loss and devastation,” Swift wrote on her Instagram Stories. “As many people embark on some of the most challenging times in their lives, there are also many incredible organizations and groups coming together to help these communities rebuild,” she added.
