Ritz brings flavor to the cracker brand’s favorite bite-sized snack.

In a press release to PEOPLE on Dec. 13, Ritz confirmed the launch of a new “salty, delicious” variety of Ritz Bits — spicy queso.

Spicy Queso Cracker Sandwiches will be available at select retailers beginning in December.

“With Spicy Ques, we’re responding to consumer demand for exciting, bold flavors and a boost of heat to the RITZ Bits you know and love,” said Steven Saenen, Ritz’s vice president of marketing, in a statement. “It’s a bold twist on a childhood favorite, with a kick in every bite.”

The launch of the spicy queso marks the first new Ritz Bits flavor in nearly a decade. It’s also just Ritz’s latest foray into bolder flavor profiles — the brand launched sweet habanero-flavored Ritz Toasted Chips earlier this year.

Spicy Queso Bites are “a layered experience that combines the rich, creamy flavor of cheese with a bold, spicy kick,” according to the release.

Many classic food brands are trying bolder versions of their traditional offerings. Back in March, Hidden Valley confirmed the launch of seven new flavors of its ranch dressing, including three spicier offerings: Nashville Hot, Jalapeño Creamy, Honey Hot Hot.
