While Lucasfilm does have enough footage to create a special edition of the prequels, like Lucas did for the original trilogy, that’s unlikely given Lucas’ original motivations behind it. The special editions of the original trilogy were designed to help Lucas realize his vision for these films (the technology to do so didn’t exist at the time), as well as a few other changes he simply wanted to make.
