Sentry’s MCU introduction makes G’iah’s story even more confusing

Secret Invasion is a spoof adaptation of the comic book of the same name, introducing the concept of the Skrulls infiltrating Earth and impersonating its inhabitants for several years, but ultimately with little success. It also reveals that Fury orchestrated an operation after the Battle of Earth to collect DNA samples from MCU superpowered characters, dubbed “Harvest”, the formula was adopted by two Skrulls, Gravik and G’iah.

Despite her death at the hands of Gaia, the series depicts Gravik as a surviving Super-Skrull capable of using the powers of multiple MCU characters. She is subsequently recruited by Olivia Colman’s Sonya Falsworth to take part in an unnamed secret project, widely speculated to be a British superhero team.

For this reason alone, G’iah is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, but she’s about to be replaced by Sentry. Secret Invasion Failing that, Marvel could have given G’iah some meaning by making him a powerful foe that the Thunderbolts needed to defeat. However, that role will apparently go to the Sentry.

G’iah and Sentry will be the latest characters in the MCU to cause power scaling issues. Even early on, reconciling the fact that Hawkeye and Black Widow fought alongside Thor and the obvious power disparity between them was a difficult task for the MCU. For example, the series had to significantly weaken the Hulk to ensure that his compatriot seemed just as powerful, if not more powerful.

Since then, with more and more characters like Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Scarlet Witch, it feels almost ridiculous to add someone like Kate Bishop to the Avengers lineup. Thunder* Promising to be a fascinating read, the Sentinels’ arrival adds yet another reason to question what role low-key characters can play in a series populated by so many godlike figures. At the very least, they’ll give audiences plenty of underdogs to root for in the coming years.
