Profession
Tushar Veerapally was a businessman before entering politics. It was only after his father Vellaappally Natesan formed his own political party, Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), in December 2015 that he became interested in politics. It was established as a political arm of the SNDP. His father is the SNDP chairman and Tusakhar is the vice-president. A few months after the party was founded, Tusakhar was appointed chairman of the BDJS, and his father quit the party, giving Tusakhar full control of the BDJS.
His party contested the 2016 Kerala Assembly elections and had 37 seats out of 140. They didn’t win, but received 4% of the total votes; as a first-time gathering, this was impressive. The aim of the BDJS is to unite all Hindu groups and minorities in Kerala and fight for all their rights together as a united front. Tushar met with leaders of several organizations but failed to form an alliance.
In November 2016, Tushar forged an alliance with the BJP and the BDJS became part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Tushar has also been appointed as the national convenor of NDA in Kerala.
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Rahul Gandhi had announced that he would contest from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala. A few days later, Amit Shah announced that Tushar Veerapalli will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad constituency in Kerala.
I am proud to announce Bharat Dharma Jana Sena Chairman Shri Suchhar Vellaappally as the NDA candidate from Wayanad.
He is a dynamic and dynamic youth leader who represents our commitment to development and social justice. Under his leadership, the NDA will emerge as the political alternative in Kerala.
— Amit Shah (@AmitShah) April 1, 2019
This came as a surprise to many as the BDJS had already announced its candidate for the Wayanad seat. Following this, the previous candidate withdrew and Tushar filed his nomination from Wayanad constituency but lost to Rahul Gandhi.

fact
- The BDJS has been relying heavily on the votes of the Ezhava community and Hindus. Tushar has always said that the BDJS is a secular party and not just a Hindu right-wing party.
- Tushar and his family have been accused of corruption by many. It was also reported that his father Vellaappally Natesan turned SNDP into a family business as many of his family members held senior positions in SNDP and he even accepted bribes from those who wanted to hold important positions in SNDP.
- Even after Tushar became the BDJS chairman, several members of the SNDP objected to his continuation as the SNDP deputy chairman, but the objection was later withdrawn.
