Tiffany Haddish Pleads No Contest to Reckless Driving in Los Angeles DUI Case

The ‘Girls Trip’ actress reportedly fell asleep at the wheel over Thanksgiving weekend

Tiffany Haddish pleaded no contest to reckless driving due to an incident under the influence of alcohol that occurred in Los Angeles late last year.

The Girls trip actress, 44, dismissed her two misdemeanor charges after taking a post-arrest plea deal stipulating that she was arrested over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Haddish entered a personal appearance and pleaded no contest to reckless driving, a violation of Vehicle Code Section 23103, the affidavit said.

The Haunted palace the actress was summarily placed on one year’s probation. She was also ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and participate in Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s victim impact program.

Haddish will be required to attend the HAM (hospital and morgue) SB1176 driver education program and pay standard fines and fees.

She was also given a “Watson” admonishment – a legal document that those with a DUI must sign stating that they are aware of the harmful or fatal impact their actions may have.

According to a statement provided to PEOPLE, Haddish was also ordered to provide an officer with proof of completion. There are no future court appearances scheduled at this time.

Haddish initially pleaded not guilty in late December. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for February 14.

Her legal complications stem from her Thanksgiving weekend arrest after she allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of her Tesla.

After officers from the Beverly Hills Police Department found the comedian around 5:45 a.m. local time on November 24, she was charged with one misdemeanor count of DUI and one misdemeanor count of driving with a 0.08% blood alcohol content.

The night before, Haddish performed at The Laugh Factory in West Hollywood to celebrate the community event’s 43rd Annual Free Thanksgiving Feast.

After being released later that same day, Haddish performed at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, California, and poked fun at the situation, stating, “I prayed to God to send me a man with a job, a career, preferably in uniform, and I answered my prayers “, says the video obtained by TMZ.

In an interview with Party tonight published on November 27, Haddish said the situation would “never happen again.” She said her Tesla parked itself after falling asleep.

The actress claimed to be in “good spirits” after the incident, and told the newspaper: “I’m going to get help to learn to maintain balance and boundaries.”
