Fans of the hit reality series “Love and Marriage Huntsville” are well aware of Tiffany Whitlow’s penchant for stirring things up and causing controversy. Yet few people are aware of the tireless efforts Whitlow is making behind the scenes to address health disparities affecting the black community.
OWN star is more than just a wife and reality star; She recently welcomed her first child with her husband Louis Whitlow. Whitlow is also a co-founder of NOWINCLUDED, an online platform and mobile app that provides the Black community with a safe place to share knowledge, learn about health care disparities, and share that knowledge with others.
In an exclusive interview with BLACK ENTERPRISE, Whitlow revealed how her experience as a teen mom inspired her to co-found the company and how she is using the platform to fight for Black maternal health and better access to healthcare for Black patients.
I was adopted very young into a mixed home. My biological mother gave me up for adoption because of the color of my skin. Making wise health decisions was crucial to me growing up, but I couldn’t do it because I wasn’t familiar with my family’s medical history.
At the age of 19, I became a mother, which changed the way I made health decisions. Now, in addition to deciding for myself, I also had to decide for my son who depended on me. I had to make sure that I was making wise decisions. My hospitalized son was diagnosed with asthma.
