When a woman spoke about her encounter with a tattoo artist who demanded thousands of dollars for a sketch, Tattoo Gate was born. TikTok user Courtney Monteith posted a video about her encounter with a tattoo artist who tried to offer him multiple designs. In her opening statement, Ella Courtney said that she contacted a tattoo artist she admired to get a fox tattoo on her upper arm. The tattoo artist informed her that there was a “design fee” after charging her $180 for an online session. It was then that Courtney revealed that she was given three different design fees, the lowest of which was a concept sketch with a minor modification and costing from $1,500 to $6,000.

Courtney chose the cheapest option for the sketch, but what she got was a completely different design than agreed upon. Although Courtney provided images of what she wanted, the artist informed her that it was her fault for not being explicit when she expressed her displeasure for wanting a full bracelet. The tattoo artist then informed Courtney that she would need an additional payment of $2,260 on top of the initial payment of $1,000 for the tattoo appointment to redo her sketch.

We found out earlier that design costs were actually optional and called “design collaboration.” “The possibility of this compensation was never disclosed to me. She gave me three options and asked which one I felt most comfortable with. It’s my own fault; I should have left at that point,” Courtney said. Ultimately, Courtney decided to stop tattooing. , but she ended up losing $2,600 in the process. It wasn’t long before another person reported being “ripped off” out of a total of $4,000 by the same tattoo artist. So this was all about this case.
