When TikToker Brigette Pheloung was given a “casual” dress code for her family’s Thanksgiving plans in November, she didn’t show up to the festivities in traditional fall attire.
No, she arrived in an ensemble more suited to Paris Fashion Week than a cozy dinner at home – and one that cost the equivalent of about eight pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes.
Of course, she documented the moment — and the reactions it got — online.
On Nov. 28, Brigette, who goes by the name Acquired Style online, shared a series of videos on TikTok showing herself extravagantly dressed in an $8,800 Parker Zinn merino wool knit dress, so popular it was previously worn by Kathryn Hahn. It was also so elaborate that it came with a petticoat worn underneath.

Brigette’s content revolving around the avant-garde item, which began with a get-ready-with-me vlog (complete with unboxing) and ended with a clip of her relatives lining up to take photos with her as if they were at the Met Gala, went viral. . In total, all four videos have garnered more than 30 million views.
The New York-based content creator, 27, tells PEOPLE that starting in 2021, she’s creating a spectacle with her clothing choices.

Behind the scenes, there are very specific situations that Brigette has to think about when planning her holiday look.
Since most, if not all, of her clothes are on loan to her, as was the case with her Parker Zinn dress (which can be made to order and takes 10-12 weeks to make), she has to “take good care” of the piece in to whom it is. He also doesn’t wear clothes all night, “just until we eat and clean up,” he admits.
AND only what if her twin sister, Danielle, who is a famous style influencer herself, arrives in the same look? “I would say Danielle definitely dresses up more than the average member of our family, but nowhere near what I do. Although we do almost everything together, this is my thing,” jokes Brigette.
With Christmas just around the corner, Brigette, who ditched festive marmalades last year in favor of an Old Hollywood-style cocktail dress, is already planning another top outfit. “It is made to order. Think ‘Holiday Barbie!'” she tells PEOPLE.

Strangely enough, her relatives are always blown away by her haute couture, even though that’s expected now. “They love it! Knowing how they would react is really what started this tradition, since they’re usually a jeans-and-a-sweater family.”
But Brigette’s dramatic fashion revelations don’t just depend on the opinion of her loved one. Having a TikTok platform with 1.3 million followers means her outfits are open to comments, good and bad.
About how he deals with the latter, he says: “According to my experience, people who react negatively on the Internet are almost always not happy with themselves, so I know that negativity is most often a projection. I just keep that in mind and don’t take it personally. At the end of the day, I’m happy with who I am and what I’m doing, and that’s all that really matters.”
