Timothée Chalamet Hosts SNL and Gets Support from Adam Sandler — Who Continues Joke About the Young Star's Name

Live from Studio 8H, it’s Timothée Chalamet – with a special guest appearance by Adam Sandler!

The actor, 29, pulled double duty at Saturday Night Live on January 25, acting as host and musical guest.

Ahead of his first musical appearance, Sandler, 58, made a surprise cameo to introduce Chalamet. The actor-comedian has been saying the young star’s name in a comical, gritty manner, a follow-up to a prank he made at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on January 5.

During her opening monologue at the awards, host Nikki Glaser teased Chalamet and said, “Your name sounds like something Adam Sandler would say,” before Happy Gilmore Star responded from the audience with his own spin on the pronunciation.

Sandler matched that same energy during his latest SNL A performance as Chalamet channeled Bob Dylan, whom he portrays in his latest film, Completely unknownperforming a medley of “Outlaw Blues” and “Three Angels”.

During his opening monologue, Chalamet poked fun at how he “keeps losing” at the awards, stating, “Every time it gets harder to pretend it doesn’t sting,” before a compilation showing him losing to competitors including Gary Oldman and Mahershala Alija played.

Then, as Chalamet tried to practice giving his acceptance speech, the pretend award was announced and given to Kenan Thompson instead.

Elsewhere during the show, Chalamet starred in a series of sketches, including one where he played a boyfriend administering a new CPR technique to his girlfriend’s grandmother and another where he portrayed a barista in training.

He saw another moment from the episode Dune The actor stars as an AI character who hosts an educational podcast.

SNL is currently in the midst of its milestone 50th season.

The late-night series Comedy Sketch celebrates the occasion with a special three-hour broadcast, SNL50: Anniversary Special, on Sunday, February 16 at 8pm EST on NBC and the Peacock.
