Timothée Chalamet Lookalike Reveals How His 'Spontaneous' Appearance at Golden Globes Came Together in Under 24 Hours (Exclusive)

Last October, Miles Mitchell made a name for himself as the winner of the Timothée Chalamet lookalike competition. A few months later, the doppelganger kicked off the year as his own star at the 2025 Golden Globes.

Mitchell, 21, looked right at home on the red carpet at the awards show on Sunday, January 5. He posed with fellow celebrity Max Braunstein, who was named Glen Powell’s twin at a pageant in Texas last November. The duo smiled together holding signs that read: “I won a lookalike contest and now I’m at the Golden Globes.”

The real Chalamet, 28, even stopped for a brief photo op with Mitchell, marking their second meeting since the iconic lookalike competition in October.

The social media sensation looked as cool and composed as any A-lister at the event with a big smile and a classic tuxedo, though he exclusively admits to PEOPLE that he’s far from a Hollywood veteran. In fact, Mitchell had never been to the West Coast before CBS invited him to this year’s Golden Globes.

“It was definitely one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life, so far. They called me on a Friday night at 9:00 p.m. and asked me to get on a morning flight to LA,” the New York resident recalls. “It all happened so fast, and I was just like, ‘Wow, I guess I’m doing this now.’ I didn’t even have anything to wear. I literally bought a tuxedo when I got to LA, because I didn’t have time to get ready for a red carpet outfit.”

The red carpet experience was much more than Mitchell imagined: “I always thought the red carpet was just a little passageway that people would just walk through to enter the building, but it was the whole thing,” he shares. “There were all these photographers everywhere. There were different parts of the red carpet for different things.”

He continues, “It was so interesting to get an inside look at things that I would normally only watch on TV or on my phone.”

Much like the last time Mitchell saw Chalamet — who failed the original lookalike contest, though in the chaos of the crowd, he didn’t meet the winner — at Complete unknown screenings, their meeting was short and sweet. Mitchell says Chalamet was “flying past the red carpet” because the show was just minutes away from opening.

“I don’t think he stopped for anyone but me. I can’t be too sure about that, [but] he wasn’t really stopping for anybody,” Mitchell tells PEOPLE. “I think people were calling out, ‘Timothée, that’s a double. It’s a double’ from the barricades, and then he noticed me.”

In addition to reuniting with Chalamet for a brief photo shoot, Mitchell was in the presence of some of his favorite celebrities. He tells people he stood less than a foot away from Emma Stone, Miley Cyrus and Harrison Ford.

“Imam La La Land tattoo of [Stone and Ryan Gosling] dancing,” says Mitchell. “But I didn’t want to walk up to her and say, ‘Emma Stone, I have your tattoo on my leg.'”

The young rising star used some willpower as she hung out with the brightest stars in the business.

“I’ve been told that the red carpet is more professional,” he explains. “Everybody on the red carpet is already somebody. You can’t just go up to people like, ‘Oh my God, I’m your biggest fan’ or something. So I controlled myself.”

However, some people still approached Braunstein and Mitchell to take photos and share their appreciation for their red carpet looks. He says Moana voice actress Auli’i Cravalho walked up to them and said, “You guys killed it.”

Timothée Chalamet and Glen Powell Lookalike winners strike a pose at the 2025 Golden Globes.

After the carpet was rolled out, Mitchell watched the show at a party held in a room adjacent to the actual ceremony area. Still, he enjoyed almost all the same perks as the superstars next door, including a meal prepared by Nobu: “I’ve never eaten so well in my life,” he notes.

The viewing party room was also the engraving room, so Mitchell got to watch each winner’s name being engraved into their Golden Globe statuettes.

According to Mitchell, he and his new friend Braunstein shared similar amazement at everything they witnessed at the event. The Texas lookalike actually spent some time talking to Powell, who hugged Braunstein immediately after seeing him.

“Oh look who’s here!” the Hit Man the star said in a video filmed by E! News before the “twins” snapped a joint selfie. Powell also brought her mom, Cyndy, to greet Braunstein, whom she had previously met at the actual competition. However, the actor’s mom didn’t just attend the event; she also had the honor of crowning the winner himself.

Mitchell says he and Braunstein spent the night bonding over the “unique experience” of attending the start of the awards show.

“We became best friends because of it… We had such a unique experience together,” adds Mitchell. “We’re just regular people who were just thrown into the mix with a bunch of super tall, powerful people, super fun and talented celebrities and actors. We said, ‘Wow, I can’t believe this is happening to us.'”

There was only one thing about the night that Mitchell wasn’t entirely happy with: his double lost to Adrien Brody in the Best Performance in a Motion Picture Drama category.

“He should have won it. I was actually so devastated that he lost,” Mitchell says of Chalamet. “Although I hadn’t seen the other movie and the other actor when he gave his speech, it really seemed like he had too [put] a lot of passion for your project, which makes sense. Of course, I’m biased, but I fully believed that Timothée deserved to win.”

Before the stunt competition in New York, Mitchell was not particularly familiar with Chalamet’s oeuvre. Back in November, a student told PEOPLE that he just saw dune 2“Not even Dune one,” he admitted then. Now he can add that Complete unknown to the list, Mitchell will drive for the star throughout the awards season.

“I feel like with some actors in movies, you just see the same actor in that movie. You don’t see that character,” he shares. “I think Timothée Chalamet does a great job of portraying Bob Dylan. I’ve never seen a movie and said, ‘Okay, this is just Timothée Chalamet as this person.’ No, it was Bob Dylan.”

And if Mitchell’s dreams come true, he won’t just be cheering on the superstar from home. He said he would like to attend more awards shows in the future.

“This was the most fun I’ve had in my life,” says Mitchell. “I mean, I didn’t even get invited within 24 hours and I flew out. I’m always in the mood for more spontaneous events like this that I would attend no matter what.”
