Tiny Pretty Things Star Barton Cowperthwaite, 31, Reveals Stage 2 Brain Cancer Diagnosis

Barton Cowperthwaite has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

The Tiny Pretty Things The 31-year-old actor revealed in an Instagram post on Friday that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor a day earlier and would be undergoing brain surgery to remove it.

“So…. Yesterday I was diagnosed with at least stage 2 glioma,” Cowperthwaite wrote in his post, also noting that it was a “pretty decent sized brain tumor” and that it “hasn’t spread” to “anywhere else in the body.”

Glioma is a common type of tumor that originates in the brain, and gliomas make up about 33% of all brain tumors, according to John Hopkins Medicine. Glioma forms in the glial cells that surround and support neurons in the brain, according to the website.

“The only treatment for something like this is brain surgery,” continued Cowperthwaite. “So far the doctors were confident that they would be able to remove most of the tumor and that after a successful operation and some rehabilitation, I would be working like me (amazing, talented, brilliant, hilarious).”

He added that the diagnosis likely means “scans and examinations” will be “a part” of the rest of his life, and noted that he and his family will need “a few days to get a second opinion”.

“I plan to go for surgery [in the] mid or late next week. I will do my best to speak openly about this trip,” Cowperthwaite wrote. “I plan to fully recover to be better than my former glory!”

Along with the message, Cowperthwaite shared a photo of himself making the peace sign in a hospital gown. He also shared two photos of his brain scans that showed a large tumor growing in the upper hemisphere of his skull.

Cowperthwaite played minor roles in several TV shows such as Girls5eva and Center Stage: On Pointe before making his big break on Netflix Tiny Pretty Things as Oren Lennox. He also acted in the film Cheaters.

In the comments section of his post, his Tiny Pretty Things Costar Casimere Jollette wrote: “I love you Bart. Sending you so much healing. You got this.”

Foreign banks‘ actor Rudy Pankow also commented, writing: “YOU are an unstoppable man. Yes, it is an important entry into life that you go through, but not without the support of many through it💪🏽 unstoppable.”
