Filming of his eighth spy film is taking place near the five-mile stretch between junctions 10 and 11 which was closed from 9pm last night.
Drivers are warned to expect traffic jams of up to five hours on the surrounding roads.
But Tom, 61, is desperate to continue filming Mission Impossible 8 at Longcross Studios in Surrey after being dogged by delays.
The helipad in Battersea, south-west London, is one of those ready for the stricken cast and crew.
A source said last night: “Closing the M25 is a headache for most people, but not for Tom. He is so keen to keep Mission Impossible 8 in production that he has helicopters on standby in London to transport his crew to Longcross.
“It sounds excessive, but delaying work on the film is a bigger problem, and Tom is such a professional — he would move heaven and earth to keep the show going.
“Film crew or stars needed for filming have been told that if they cannot get to Longcross due to the closure of the M25 they will be airlifted.
“It’s a feat that’s like a scene from one of Tom’s movies.”
The pilot, inset, who plays field agent Ethan Hunt and performs his own stunts, filmed in Derbyshire last week alongside co-stars Simon Pegg and Hayley Atwell.
The latest film was supposed to hit theaters this summer, but was delayed for almost a year due to strikes by Hollywood actors.
Tom Cruise says he wants to land a helicopter at Buckingham Palace or Trafalgar Square to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee
Travel hell is predicted as the M25 closes for the entire weekend for the first time since the London Orbital Motorway opened in 1986.
Demolition of the bridge and installation of the bridge, the first of five major planned works, is underway.
The affected section between J10 and J11 will not reopen until 6am on Monday.
National Highways Agency boss Jonathan Wade warned: “Avoid the area entirely if you can.
“Or avoid traveling altogether and find something to do at home, tidy up the bathroom or play in the garden.
“If you have to go, travel by train, walk, use a bicycle.
“If you can, avoid driving around those detours.”
Additional closures are expected between May and December.
