Tom Hanks’ niece, Carly Reeves, made headlines after going through a mental meltdown while appearing on the hit ABC reality TV series Claiming Fame.
The actress, who is related to the Hollywood icon through his wife, Rita Wilson, revealed her uncle’s reaction when she made her debut in the series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 39-year-old was asked about the Forrest Gump star’s reaction when she told him she signed up for the show. “Oh, he’s so excited for me,” she said. “He said, ‘Join the show, it’s your choice. I hope you do well. Good luck.”

In a separate interview with Zachary Reality, Carly explained that she emailed Tom to inform him of her appearance on the show and that he was “so happy” for her.

She also said that she hoped she hadn’t “embarrassed” him by appearing when asked if she would be involved in the episode. “I hope so,” she said EW. “I mean, maybe I don’t want him to watch it because I don’t want to embarrass him for any reason. I hope I don’t embarrass him, but I don’t think I will.”

“So I wish he watched it, because I think it’s hilarious… Either way, he’s happy for me. He asked me, “Are you making any money?” And I said: “Yeah, I’ve earned some. ” And he said, “Okay, fine.” So he’s glad I made some money.
Talking about her relationship with Tom, Carly explained that she met the actor more as a child and that they often went on family vacations together.

“We’re still close. I think it’s hard to get a hold of him because he’s always traveling and doing all sorts of things, but he’s always been supportive of my acting career,” she said. “I’ve always been an actor since high school and he even came to my class once to talk about my acting class.”
Carly also added that Tom has been a spectator in a number of her theatrical performances over the years and while she was in his film, Larry Crowneshe had to audition “like everyone else”.

“He’s not the type to just throw you a bone and say, ‘Here’s the part!’,” she explains. “He wanted to make sure I could complete the role if he gave it to me.”
Carly, the florist at Tom’s wedding to his aunt when she was four years old, was excluded from the Requirement to be famous in the premiere of the second part – a moment that quickly went viral on the Internet.
The reality show, co-hosted by brothers Kevin and Frankie Jonas, is about a group of famous cousins who try to hide their identities in an attempt to win prize money.
