Tom Hardy Offers to Pay Over $300,000 of Crew’s Wages on New Series After Company Goes Out of Business

Heroes don’t always wear capes — sometimes they’re covered in poison… at least if you’re Tom Hardy.

The actor, 47, has reportedly offered to pay 250,000 pounds — or roughly $315,000 — in lost wages to workers who constructed sets for his new Paramount+ series, directed by Guy Ritchie. Fixer, when the construction company that employed them ceased to operate, according to London Times.

As workers, contracted by construction company Helix 3D, completed the sets last summer, a leaked WhatsApp message from the week of December 9 revealed that Helix 3D had no funds to pay the contractors – despite being paid by Paramount.

The ordeal reportedly prompted Hardy to step up and secure funds to pay workers so they could receive the wages they were owed in time for the holidays.

“He offered himself [pay]”, said a source close to the actor times. “But the production and Paramount agreed to pay.”

Another source at Paramount said time that the studio was “outraged” when they learned of the situation and immediately stepped in – along with the series’ production company 101 Studios – to ensure the performers received payment.

Before the financial commitments from Paramount and Studio 101, Chris Hudson, an official with the broadcasting union representing employees, wrote a letter that he timeexpressing anger and frustration on behalf of union members.

“Our members deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and to be compensated on time for their work. It is completely unacceptable that they are facing significant financial uncertainty, especially in the run-up to Christmas,” Hudson wrote, according to the newspaper.

He added: “This close to Christmas, our members are rightly very anxious, with many fearing that they will not be able to cover the necessities. I believe you can appreciate the significant impact this has on their mental health as well.”

Representatives for Hardy, Paramount and Helix 3D did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
