Tom Selleck Wants to ‘Share the Ride’ in Upcoming Memoir You Never Know — See the Cover Reveal (Exclusive)

Tom Selleck adds a new job to his already famous resume: author!

The TV legend (78) will publish his memoirs, You never knowMay 7, 2024, and PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at its cover.

You never know finds Selleck taking readers through his “extraordinary life and quite serendipitous career,” doing so “in his own voice and uniquely unpretentious style,” according to a statement from Dey Street Books, an imprint of Harper Collins.

“The famous actor takes readers on his uncharted but serendipitous journey to the top in Hollywood, his trials and tribulations, his failures and mistakes and, over time, his well-deserved success,” the statement continued.

Selleck will chronicle his childhood in California, his “athletic” college days in Hollywood, and his rise to stardom in his thirties and beyond as he came of age on screen.

“From the USC basketball court, to serendipity, to discovering and accepting a job I love. It’s been a long bumpy road with a few singles, a few home runs and a lot of strikeouts,” Selleck says. “I figured it was time to split the ride.”

The memoir will also chronicle Selleck’s close friendships with countless A-listers—everyone from “Frank Sinatra to Carol Burnett to Sam Elliott, paying special tribute to his mentor James Garner from Rockford fileswho believed, like Selleck, that TV protagonists are far more interesting when they have sharp edges,” the statement reveals.

On the contrary, the publisher assures Magnum, PI Fans will be fascinated to learn in the book how Selleck made Thomas Magnum the apparently “imperfect hero” that viewers loved so much.

The memoir promises to be full of “charm, talent, and humor” — all qualities teeming with Selleck from his time as beloved Dr. Richard Burke (Monica’s older boyfriend on Friends) to his current role as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on the hit CBS crime series Blue bloodwhich is now entering its 14th season.
