Following allegations of misconduct, the recently sacked president of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) says his “reputation has been completely destroyed”. After police launched an investigation into the claims, the business group fired Tony Danker and suspended three other employees on April 11.
The CBI board of directors said Danker’s actions “fell short of” what was expected of him and that there were “serious flaws” in the way the organization operated.
In his first interview since being sacked, Danker told the BBC his reputation had been “completely destroyed” by being misrepresented and used as a “scapegoat” in various allegations, including rape. According to Brian McBride, president of the CBI, Mr. Danker’s dismissal was carried out on a sound legal basis.
Speaking on the BBC’s Today programme, McBride described his account of events as “selective” and said the former CBI director general was allowed to seek “satisfaction” if he felt he had been treated unfairly.
According to Mr. Danker, his resignation letter listed four reasons for his dismissal: planning a private karaoke party for 15 people, browsing CBI employees’ Instagram accounts, messaging staff members about unrelated matters with work and invite junior staff to meals or to meet. – a meeting.
However, other allegations, including drug use and felony sexual assault, came to light just weeks after the CBI said it was investigating various allegations against him.
While Danker lamented having some “very unpleasant” employees, the former CBI chief claimed his quick firing was wrongful as he “never used sexually suggestive language with people” while working for the organization. “There was an incident where someone complained about unwanted verbal contact,” he said.
“At no time was there any physical contact. They never physically touched me. I have never expressed myself sexually. I never made advances on anyone.
In addition, he admitted to messaging some 200 specific corporate employees, but claimed he did so in an effort to foster a “relationship” with coworkers who were doing their work remotely during and after the COVID lockdown.
Since Danker was accused of having unwanted contact with a CBI employee last month, the trade body has been rocked by allegations of a hostile workplace atmosphere. According to a Guardian article at the time, he considered the interaction to be sexual harassment. Mr. Danker disputes the charge.
Regarding the allegations, Mr. Danker tweeted on April 11: “I acknowledge the severe publicity the CBI has received following revelations of horrific events that took place prior to my term in office.
“I only found out about them last week and I was horrified. Even so, I was surprised to find out this morning that I had been fired from the CBI instead of calling me to present my case, as originally confirmed.
