Tony DeAngelo began his career as a junior ice hockey player for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he was the youngest player in USHL history, often competing against collegiate athletes.

In the USHL season 2010-11. appeared in 28 games with the RoughRiders, scoring one goal and 14 assists for a total of 15 points.

In January 2011, he broke his patella while blocking a slapshot against the Des Moines Buccaneers, and the injury sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Subsequently, DeAngelo was selected by the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in the second round, 24th overall, of the 2011 OHL Priority Selection Draft.
