Eden Grinshpan told the story of how a blind date set up on the other side of the world led her to meet her “eternal Valentine” and now husband, Ida Nivron
Canada’s Top ChefHost Eden Grinshpan has the ultimate love story.
The cookbook author used Valentine’s Day as the perfect opportunity to share how she “got engaged to a stranger in 5 weeks.” That “stranger” is her current husband Ido Nivron, with whom he has been in a relationship for more than 10 years.
Along with a collection of photos with Nivron, the mom of two wrote that many years ago she had just gone through a breakup and went home to see her parents. “Last night in town I went to a bar and met these girls who wanted to set me up with their friend in New York… so they made me message him on Facebook,” she wrote on Instagram.
Grinshpan, who was the host Canada’s Top Chef of 2017, continued, “We went out for drinks when I got back to NYC and by the end of our first date he was introducing me to people as his girlfriend.”
She described how Nivron told his mother he was going to marry her after their first date and proposed five weeks later. The couple married the following summer, and a decade later they have “two amazing daughters,” she said.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better partner and husband in my life,” Grinshpan wrote, calling Nivron her “forever Valentine.”
Grinshpan and Nivron shared more details about their romantic story in a YouTube video released in the fall.
She explained how she went out to a bar in Israel last night and how she “had the best time”. Nivron clarifies, laughing, “They mean they spanked her.” Her social media post left out the detail that her new friends told Nivron to add Grinshpan on Facebook, which he did, but that he didn’t message her.
Nivron scoffed and clarified that it was only for “three days”, but during that time Grinshpan took the wheel.
“I texted him and said, ‘Hey, what’s up, when are we hanging out?'” she recalled.
The two decided on a time and place, and she said the first time she saw him was like “a scene from a movie. It was like slo-mo.”

As the night progressed, the couple became more comfortable and “kissed”. He performed some tricks, like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective impression and handstand, and “that did it for me,” she said. “At that moment I thought, ‘This is the man I’m going to marry.'”
The couple went on a date the next day, and he took the next week off work so they could spend every day together.
Just over a month after meeting, the two went grocery shopping at Essex Market in New York. As he walked around, Nivron asked Grinshpan, “Where do you usually buy groceries?” and when she showed him, he said, “Perfect, then this is the place,” and got down on one knee to propose to her.
She said yes, they moved in together and the couple married a year and a half later.
