Top Model Winner Adrianne Curry Details Breast Implant Explant Journey: ‘The First Year, I Wept Nonstop’

Adrianne Curry-Rhode is marking an important milestone on her journey to self-love.

On Monday, January 6, the former model, 42, who won the 1st cycle America’s Next Top Modelreferred to the “complete metamorphosis” she had gone through in the five years since her breast implant explantation surgery.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the procedure involves removing silicone or saline implants. While some may choose to undergo the procedure for personal reasons, others do so after facing health complications, such as hardening of the tissue around the implant.

In her post, shared on Instagram and Xu, Curry-Rhode celebrated five years since having her breast implants removed by detailing her journey to recovery.

“The first year I cried non-stop. I lost over 90% of my natural breasts to necrosis and refused a fat transfer. I was no longer willing to risk my health for vanity,” she wrote. “I had a crash course in humiliation and exposure.”

The former reality star, who married Matthew Rhode in 2018, expressed how important he was to her growth.

“My husband had to cut out all my stitches, due to our long distance life and time. I was brought to my knees in humility and went through the fire of my dying vanity. It took a solid 2 years to adjust and look human,” she wrote . “My husband has been my rock…and I can’t believe how indifferently he was disturbed by my honesty.”

“I am happy and healthy and I wouldn’t wish plastic surgery on my WORST enemy. It has done nothing to alleviate my body dysmorphia and has only given me years of suffering,” she wrote. “Be OK with who you are and what you are. In my case, with a lot LESS of who I was.”

Last July, PEOPLE spoke with Curry-Rhode, who said she has “found peace with the country and herself” since leaving Hollywood for a quieter life in Montana.

“I left and I’m making a hell of a lot less money, but I feel like I have my dignity, my soul. I felt like when I won Top model to the point that a lot of me was cut off,” she said.
