Tracee Ellis Ross Wishes the 'Legendary' Diana Ross a Happy 80th Birthday in Heartfelt Tribute: 'Oh How I Love You Mom'

Tracee Ellis Ross pays tribute to her mother Diana Ross as she celebrates her 80th birthday!

On Tuesday, the pop icon turned 80 — and in celebration of her big birthday, her 51-year-old daughter reflected on all the milestones she’s achieved in her legendary career and as a mom by posting a touching tribute on Instagram.

Fittingly, the Emmy-nominated actress posted a video featuring 80 snaps of the pop superstar from throughout her life, including several iconic photo shoots, some of her album covers and a cute picture of the mother-daughter duo. The slideshow was accompanied by Ross’ classic song “If We Hold On Together”, in the title Negro the star revealed how much he appreciates his mom.

She began: “Oh how I love you mum. 80 amazing pictures of you in 80 seconds to celebrate your 80th birthday today ♥️.”

Tracee went on to say that she often looks up facts about her life, as her mother’s career is so well documented, and finds it “amazing” to see how much she achieved between 1976 and 1985, when she and her sisters were born. (Rhonda Ross Kendrick was born to Diana and Berry Gordy in 1971, then the following year she and first husband Robert Ellis Silberstein welcomed Tracee, and Chudney Ross was born in 1974. Her sons Ross Arne Naess and Evan Ross, with whom she shares an ex-husband Arne Naess Jr., were born in 1987 and 1988, respectively)

She wrote: “my mom @dianaross released an album a year, went on multiple tours, produced and starred in various TV specials, recorded Mahogany and Wizardproduced her legendary concert in Central Park in 1983 with an estimated 800,000 attendees (when the first night of the concert was a failure, she decided to pay and repeat it the next night), left Motown, bought an entire floor of the prestigious Building on Fifth Avenue, bought real estate outside of New York and business the building where Diana Ross Pantyhose and other goods were produced, and other big personal life moments?”

The Friends The alum noted the historical context of how important members of The Supremes were at the time. “This was at a time when women couldn’t apply for a loan or sit on a jury, and they didn’t have access to birth control, but they could get fired for being pregnant. As I often say, ‘Diana Ross’, a beloved global icon, is legendary, but she doesn’t hold a candle to my mom,” said the performer.

Tracee has spoken at length about how much she respects the “I’m Coming Out” singer and has maintained a close relationship with her over the years.

In an interview with S. 2022 In style, she told the new paper that her childhood was relatively normal, despite being raised by a pop star. “My mom was extremely present,” she said. “Waking us up for school, sitting with us at dinner and providing us with a real, anchored, real family life and home life. The most important thing for my mother was not fame, it was her children.”

The actress won’t be the only member of the Ross family celebrating mom’s special day.

Last month, the musician’s son Evan spoke to PEOPLE at a New York Fashion Week event about his mom’s epic birthday plans and how they plan to throw a big party.

“My mom’s 80th birthday is coming up. I can’t say where yet, but it will be something to remember,” teased the 35-year-old actor.

He added, “I think she’s going to go all in, which is exciting.”
