The father of three was Lucy’s primary caregiver during her five-year battle with breast cancer.

His beloved wife “was everything to him” and after her death Adam “wasn’t himself”.

In a tribute read to him in court, his family said: “Adam and Lucy were completely devoted to each other and Lucy was everything to Adam.

“Lucy was diagnosed with cancer and Adam supported Lucy during her long five-year battle with cancer.

“Adam was devastated when Lucy finally lost her battle with cancer and passed away.

“Adam said he didn’t know how to go on without her. He said he’d lost his wonderful wife, his best friend and his rock and he’d fallen into depression.

“He didn’t seem to be able to accept help and wasn’t himself.

“Adam was so devastated by the loss of his wife. He would say he didn’t know how to go on without Lucy. He just wanted to be with her.”

Adam runs Norwich estate agent Reality with his wife of 44 years and appeared on Homes Under the Hammer in 2017.

On October 10 last year, his family became worried when he did not show up for work.

His body was discovered at his home in Sterlet Grove, Mulbarton, by his father.

The cause of death was an overdose, Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard.

The tribute added: “Adam was loving, kind and caring; a loving, devoted father, son, brother and husband.

“Everyone loved him very much, he always had time for everything and he had many, many friends.

“Adam worked very hard, played hard and always took good care of himself by working and going to the gym.

“Adam enjoyed playing and watching sports. He especially enjoyed playing golf.”

The inquest also heard he suffered the loss of a close family member and his pet.

The ex-policeman’s father, Nigel Thompson, said Adam’s life was “slowly winding down”.

He added: “Unfortunately, life took a turn for the worse when Lucy was diagnosed with cancer.

“Adam was by her side every step of the way. He would support her no matter what and share Lucy’s pain until the end.

“Each loss crushed this loving and caring person. All his cherished treasures were taken from him; all plans, aspirations, lost.

“Life suddenly lost its purpose and had no more meaning.”

Lucy founded the company Reality Estate Agent in 2009 and her husband became a director in 2016.

The couple tied the knot at Norwich Cathedral in 2019 after doctors initially gave her the all-clear in her battle with cancer.

But doctors told her in June 2020 that her cancer had returned with multiple tumors on her liver.

Adam and Lucy raised £14,000 for the Big C Cancer Campaign with a series of fundraising events including a sponsored dive, a 400-mile cycle ride and a 25km walk.

Lucy’s family described her as “beautiful” in a statement on social media after her death.

It added: “She was everyone’s hero, the life and soul of the party and will be forever missed.”

A spokesperson for Reality Estate Agents said: “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my fellow director Adam, who tragically lost his battle with life while grieving the recent death of his wife Lucy.”

You are not alone

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide

It does not discriminate, it touches the lives of people in all corners of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and football players.

It is the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, deadlier than cancer and traffic accidents.

And men are three times more likely to take their own lives than women.

Yet it’s rarely talked about, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage if we don’t all stop and pay attention now.

That’s why The Sun launched the You Are Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all help save lives.
