According to DW SportLeipzig fans were left “almost speechless” after the shocking incident.

It was also reported that a pre-match car accident claimed the life of a Monchengladbach fan.

This further contributed to the dark atmosphere on the ground.

RB Leipzig celebrated 2-0 over the visitors in a desperately sad night for both clubs.

Xavi Simons scored for the home team in the 14th minute.

And Lois Openda took care of the victory just before an hour.

The result sees Leipzig just one point behind fourth-placed Borussia Dortmund in the race for Champions League places.

Meanwhile, Monchengladbach remain in 14th place as they continue to fight relegation from the Bundesliga.

At the top of the table, Bayer Leverkusen got an even better grip on the title race as they sealed a 2-1 win over Heidenheim.

The result gives them an eight-point lead over Bayern Munich, who have played one game more.

The match was stopped after two remote-controlled cars entered the field and began to perform spins in the penalty area, and the player was lifting one

Leverkusen thrashed Bayern 3-0 last weekend to give Thomas Tuchel’s men a mountain to climb if they are to win a 12th straight league crown.

And Harry Kane’s new club suffered further disappointment in midweek as they lost the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 1-0 to Lazio.
