The four youths were last seen getting into a silver Ford Fiesta on Saturday night.

Harvey’s mum Crystal said this morning: “I feel like I’m in a nightmare that I wish I could wake up from but I’m not.

“I just wanted to say that I appreciate people’s kindness, but no amount of texting is going to help me get through this.

“Nothing will solve this nightmare.”

North Wales Police have now revealed they located the car partially submerged in water and on its roof during a search in the Porthmadog area.

It was confirmed that four bodies were found in the vehicle.

Sources told the Daily Mail that police had launched an investigation when the accident happened.

It is feared the horrific accident happened shortly after the boys left one of their grandfather’s homes – just eight miles away – on Saturday night

It wasn’t until 3.10pm on Monday – more than 24 hours later – that police were told the boys were missing.

Tragically, on Tuesday, a passerby spotted the car and the bodies were found – meaning they may have been trapped upside down in the vehicle for 48 hours.

Although formal identification has yet to be completed, the families of all four boys have been notified.

North Wales Police said it appears the car “went off the road”, while an investigation into the tragedy is ongoing.

A source told The Mail: “It appears the plan was for them to camp in Snowdonia on Sunday night, but it appears they never made it to the campsite.

“The car veered off the road at a bend, the driver seems to have lost control and ended up in the water in a ditch. The accident may have happened as early as Sunday midday, but the police were only notified more than 24 hours later that they were missing.

“It’s a very remote area and the weather was bad so the car just couldn’t be seen from the road.”

The four friends, who had traveled from the Welsh coastal areas of Harlech and Porthmadog, are believed to have been heading to Eryri National Park in Snowdonia.

The group of 16- to 18-year-olds were supposed to return on Monday morning, but none of them have made contact with their relatives, and all their phones have been switched off.

The teenagers were not experienced campers and had only basic equipment with them including a tent and sleeping bags.

Supp Owain Llewelyn said: “At the moment it appears this was a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the four young men at this very difficult time.

“This has been an extensive search involving many different agencies and volunteers, and this is unfortunately not the outcome any of us would have wanted.

“We would ask that the family be afforded adequate privacy and respect.”

Tributes for four friends have already arrived.

Wilf’s girlfriend Maddi said in an Instagram tribute: “I love you so much baby. I’ll miss you forever.”

She shared that her boyfriend is “the sweetest and kindest boy I’ve ever known,” adding, “I hope you know how much I love you beautiful.”

Madda’s mum Lisa said she was “absolutely devastated” for her daughter and all the boys’ families.

The grieving mum said: “Wilf was such a lovely kind boy and he treated Madda in a way that only a mother could hope to treat her daughter.”

Lisa added: “We will all miss you very much Wilf. Thank you for bringing so much love and happiness into Madda’s life and I promise to look after her.”

Beth Head, a friend of Hugo Morris, 18, described him as a “lovely and funny young man” and said he would be greatly missed.

She said: “I will forever cherish all the memories and laughs we had together [sic]my thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Jevon Hirst, 16, was called a “lovely boy”.

Local MP Liz Saville Roberts and Member of the Senedd Mabon ap Gwynfor released a joint statement following the tragic discovery, saying: “This news is truly heartbreaking and first and foremost as parents, our thoughts go out to the families and friends of the four young men whose lives were lost in this tragic accident. .

“We would like to acknowledge the emergency services and local mountain rescue teams who participated in the search operation, and the citizens for their help in locating the vehicle.

“No words can adequately describe the sadness this news brings to our entire community.”

Local councilor June Jones also paid tribute to her.

She told Sky News she was desperate for news that the four boys were lost without any phone signal in the wilderness.

She said the whole area was “in complete shock” with everyone’s feelings “very much a family at the moment”.

“It’s been extremely wet and the rivers have been extremely high over the last few days,” said Cllr Jones. “Obviously it’s November, the weather is bad. It’s bad weather to travel, especially with someone who doesn’t know the roads very well.”

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances, the police announced.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at around 10.08am on Tuesday to reports of an incident near the A4085 between Nantmore and Tan-Lan.

“We sent an operations manager, two ambulances and two Cymru emergency response units to the scene where we were supported by the EMS to pick up and transfer to two Wales Air Ambulance helicopters.”
