Travis Kelce Hypes Up Russell Wilson After the QB Signs with Steelers: ‘Lot of Good Football Left in Him’

Russell Wilson has a fellow NFL star in his corner — Travis Kelce.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end shared his honest thoughts on Wilson signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers following his release from the Denver Broncos in the latest episode of his New heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast.

“Cheers for Russ, man. Start one more time,” Kelce said after his brother Jason read the report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter who reported that Wilson has signed a one-year deal with the Steelers.

After Jason praised the Steelers’ defense, Travis noted that Wilson “had a similar situation” when he played for the Seattle Seahawks, before his brief stint with the Broncos.

“He had a similar situation in Seattle. Great defense. Gave you the run game. He threw in Najee Harris to hand off the ball and got a young tight end in Pat [Freiermuth],” Travis said, adding that the team also has “a bunch of good young wide receivers.”

“Let’s hope we have more success knowing the Broncos weren’t his best time,” he continued.

Wilson originally signed a five-year contract with the Broncos before being cut from the team after two seasons.

Russell Wilson, Ciara React to Denver Broncos Drafting Him as Starting Quarterback: ‘God Save Me’

“It’s hard to know what happened back there in Denver,” Jason said, to which Travis agreed, expressing that “it wasn’t as unfortunate as everyone thought it would be.”

“Russell can start over here in Pittsburgh. He’s had proven success in his past,” Jason added, referring to Wilson as “the only missing piece” for the Steelers.

“If Russ is even close to the quarterback he’s been, this is an extremely dangerous team with what they do on the defensive side of the ball,” he continued.

“I don’t even know what he was,” Travis replied. “I’ve seen that guy. He still played in Denver sometimes. I’ve seen him put some teams in and make some good throws.”

After recalling the Chiefs’ loss to the Broncos, he said he thinks “Russ has a lot of good football left in him.”

“Obviously, he’s got that factor in him that we’ve seen so many times, and for sure, he’s going to bring a bit of a veteran presence to that locker room. And we all know what a good coach he is [Mike] Tomlin and how good that defense is,” Travis continued. “The Steelers have definitely gotten better, for sure.”

Wilson confirmed reports that he is going to the Steelers by sharing a video x and Instagram with a Steelers featured column.
