Travis Kelce Makes His Debut in Grotesquerie: Find Out What Happened and What We Know About His Character

Warning: This story contains spoilers from episodes 3 and 4 of FX Grotesqueness.

Travis Kelce is coming in hot!

The NFL star made his Ryan Murphy’s debut Grotesqueness on Wednesday, October 2 when he met Niecy Nash-Betts’ character, Detective Lois Tryon, after a particularly challenging moment between her and her husband’s nurse, Nurse Redd (Lesley Manville).

Lois was taking a breath of fresh air – and then lighting a cigarette – near the beautiful garden when Kelce’s character, Ed, appeared beside her.

Travis Kelce says he ‘can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction’ to him in the Grotesqueness: ‘Brace yourselves!’

Ed appeared to be a nurse at the hospital where Lois’ husband Marshall (Courtney B Vance) was in a coma, and after finding her sitting on a bench, he began sweet-talking her before she took out a bottle and started drinking. He warned her not to get into his car since she had been drinking, but she did anyway.

In the next scene, Lois crashes her car into a utility pole and wakes up in the hospital – with Ed as a nurse. She convinced him to help her sneak out of the hospital, against her doctor’s orders, and the two held hands as they ran through the hospital corridors in a slow-motion scene that looked as surreal as it did sweet.

They walked out into the night hand in hand, Ed opening the door of a fancy red convertible for Lois, before jumping into the driver’s seat and speeding off as the episode ended.

In episode 4, Kelce’s character started calling Lois “Detective Sassy Pants” and they visited Alcoholics Anonymous together before going to dinner. He then revealed that he himself was a drug addict before moving to Juno, Alaska and working as a stripper.

The pair shared a sweet moment as he offered Lois some advice to try and help her too with her addiction – but whether she’ll take any of his sage advice remains to be seen.

Kelce’s debut at Grotesqueness comes after the FX series kept all details about his character under wraps ahead of the third episode premiere.

However, many of his colleagues praised the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, for his performance on the show, especially since it marks his scripted television debut.

Micaela Diamond, who plays Megan Duval’s sister, told PEOPLE that she and Kelce bonded as two “newbies on set, who are sponges, trying to figure it all out together,” while Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who plays Charlie Mayhew’s father, said to PEOPLE that Kelce plays “such an exciting character on this show, and I think people should look forward to seeing Travis shine because he’s a star guy.”

Nash-Betts, 54, was also full of praise, telling PEOPLE that her co-star was “very professional” and “always came prepared” to work.

She also talked about how challenging it was to play a character who is so deeply in her battle with addiction, as Lois is with alcoholism.

“In a story like this, you have to follow where she is in her addiction. Is she hungover? Is she in a cast? Is she tipsy?” she said. “Does he want to drink, but is he trying not to? There are so many places he could be, so it was hard to keep track of that.”
