Travis Kelce Says He ‘Didn’t Invent’ the Fade Haircut After Online Discourse: ‘I Just Asked for It’

Travis Kelce debunks rumors about his hair.

During a pre-Super Bowl interview with ESPN on Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, took a moment to set the record straight about his buzzy fade haircut.

“Man, I got a good fade if you need it,” he said in a clip shared on TikTok. “It’s a two on top, nice high to medium fade with a taper on the back.”

“But I didn’t invent that – I just asked,” he added with a laugh.

He also addressed the conversation that was sparked online after one news outlet reported on the rise in popularity of his current hairstyle, calling it “The Travis Kelce.” The piece received backlash on social media for not addressing the style’s long-term popularity within the black community and other cultures.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous. And to do it on February 1st and throw me to the wolves like that,” Kelce said, referring to the start of Black History Month. “That was just messed up, man. I want nothing to do with it.”

Kelce’s barber, Patrick Regan, offered some behind-the-scenes looks at how he achieves the athletic cut, which he calls the “skin fade” or “bald fade.” The style is characterized by a bald side shave that gradually transitions into a three-blade shave.

In an Instagram Story post, Regan even noted that Kelce’s hairstyle is neither new nor revolutionary. “Barbers do this bang all day, every day, for the last 100 years lol,” he captioned a photo of Kelce giving a fresh bang.

Regan — who was Kelce’s barber for six years — also revealed that the NFL star’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is a fan of his fade.

“Taylor loves hair,” he told Fox News earlier this month. “She watched me cut it many times and always complimented me afterwards.”

Swift even documented one of Kelce’s cuts on game day, snapping a photo with her signature filter that Regan later shared on Instagram.

“Thanks @taylorswift for the Pics of the Gameday Freshy for @killatrav 🙌🏼❤️,” Regan captioned the post, crediting Swift for the first photo of his post.

Regan said Good morning America that he now has other barbers across the country reaching out to him saying they’re getting a lot of requests for Kelce’s haircuts.

“I think it just goes to show how much of an icon he is that a simple hairstyle can be called a Travis Kelce haircut,” he said. “It’s pretty cool.”
