Trent Harmon appeared as a regular on NBC’s The Voice in New Orleans in May 2014. He was selected in an audition and flew to Los Angeles to compete. There he performed ‘Jealous’ by Nick Jonas. Again the program took him to Los Angeles to participate, but the judges did not choose him and his audition was not filmed. He auditioned for American Idol in August 2015, impressing the judges with his farming background when he performed Allen Stone’s ‘Unaware’.
Harmon was the first R&B artist chosen by the judges this season. He had mononucleosis and was quarantined in the toilet for a week to prevent the spread of the disease. He later performed solo in the group round, which the judges liked. They taught him to make weird looks and feel while singing on ‘Idol Grammy Hits’. Judge Harry Connick Jr. he noted that he removed the excessive jaw vibration that may have led to his defeat. Harmon won the 15th season of American Idol on April 7, 2016.
