Trista Sutter says there was a good reason she kept herself apart from her family earlier this year — and it’s all because of a TV show.
Bachelor alum, 51, revealed in an Instagram post on Friday, Nov. 15, that she has been working on season three Special forces: the toughest test in the world in May — around the same time her husband, Ryan Sutter, shared social media posts that raised concerns about their relationship.
“Was it a divorce/nervous breakdown/midlife crisis/death/trial divorce in May?! Not unless you call it that Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test, Season 3! 😜,” Trista captioned the post showing the trailer for the show’s upcoming season.
“Thankfully, none of those things have anything to do with my experience filming the show, but as you can see in the trailer, the angel on my shoulder has had to face some pretty big battles,” she continued. “You’ll have to tune in in January to see how the battles unfold, but for now I’m so grateful to be a part of this epic adventure. ❤️.”
BachelorRyan Sutter says he and wife Trista have had a ‘long year’, but nothing ‘really bad’ is going on
Trista’s latest post came after the reality star’s husband shared a series of cryptic posts on social media in May that led followers to suspect that she had died or that the couple were experiencing difficulties in their marriage.
The response from fans prompted Ryan, 50, to later clarify that Trista was “fine” and that they, as a couple, were “great”.
Then he added: “Trista is at a place in her life where she is searching a little bit. An opportunity presented itself that could help her in that search. With the support of her family, she succeeded. Part of that process means that she is temporarily unavailable to us. I miss you. We miss him.”

Trista also addressed the incident on Instagram around the same time, sharing several family photos with the couple’s two children — son Maxwell and daughter Blakesley — joking, “Oh man. Can’t a girl have a nervous breakdown/trial breakup/midlife crisis/ death/divorce in peace here?! 😜🤣.”
“Most seriously, for those it concerns, I am alive and well, happy and healthy, in love and grateful. 🥰”, she continued, explaining that she was given “an opportunity for perspective and personal growth” which she took advantage of “with the unconditional support of my family and friends.”
Trista also defended Ryan, writing that he “owes no one an explanation or needs permission to post what he wants to post and share what he wants to share 💯. If you want to know the rest of the story, I’ll share in due time.”

Before announcing Trista’s involvement in the series, Ryan explained The most dramatic podcast ever with Chris Harrison that he planned to share the posts on social media so that his wife would look at them later and see “this is what happened while you were gone.”
However, he admitted that “it just blew up in my face and backfired on me”, although he added that “it’s a good feeling to know that people still care and are still concerned and wondering” about him and his wife 21 years after theirs Bachelor look.
“It was good to be noticed and it inspired me to be better at paying attention to others, when they are doing good or when they need help,” explained Ryan. “In the end, like most things, it all worked out.”
