A tiny kitten was holding up traffic on a busy Florida highway, but not for long, thanks to some quick-thinking heroes.
In mid-May, a truck driver and an Alachua police officer teamed up to make a traffic stop and rescue a kitten they spotted in the middle of two lanes of traffic. A Mi Apa Latin Cafe truck driver first spotted the black cat, sprawled out and terrified, on U.S. Highway 441, and Officer Stanfield of the Alachua, Florida Police Department arrived afterward to assist the driver in their good deed, according to CBS affiliate 12 News.
In a video of the rescue shared on the Alachua Police Department’s Facebook page, the driver of Mi Apa Latin Cafe uses his truck to block one lane of traffic to protect the kitten from oncoming cars. Officer Stanfield then exits his vehicle and walks into the other lane of traffic between which the kitten is caught. He carefully grabs the cat as cars pass him.

“I just found a little kitten in the middle of the 441,” Officer Stanfield, who was on patrol at the time, says on his radio during the clip. The video shared on Facebook continues with footage of a police officer driving by with a salvaged machete that is small enough to fit in his hand.

The Facebook update also states that the kitten is now safe. “We are thrilled to share that this little ball of fur has found a loving forever home with one of our awesome dispatchers,” the post concluded.
