True Whitaker Shares New Tribute to Her Late Mom Keisha Nash: 'The Funniest, Brightest and Most Beautiful'

Forest Whitaker’s daughter True remembers her mother Keisha Nash after her death on Thursday.

The 25-year-old wrote a touching tribute alongside individual photos of her mother. “The funniest, smartest and most beautiful in the entire universe,” she wrote on Instagram. “I love you mom and nothing will change that.”

“I already feel you in my heart, your strength, your brilliance, your fierceness,” True continued. “It will be hard to navigate this world without you physically, even though you are now my most powerful angel, I know you will guide me through this life.”

“I miss everything about you, I miss the laugh,” True wrote. “Thank you for being. Thank you for all.”

“My butterfly, my bug, my mom,” True concluded. “I love you 🖤.”

True confirmed her mother’s death in an Instagram Story shared on Thursday.

“Goodbye mom. Love you forever and ever,” True wrote in the caption above a black-and-white photo of her mother. “the most beautiful woman in the world… thank you for teaching me every thing I know. I will see you in my dreams and feel you in my heart.”

True also shared a photo of her mother with lyrics to soul singer Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You” over the image.

Nash’s death was confirmed by her family to Deadline. The cause of death was not immediately given.

A representative for Forest Whitaker did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Thursday.

Forest and Nash first met on the set of the 1994 film Blown after she was cast as Whitaker’s character’s girlfriend, according to CBS News. Whitaker proposed the following year, and the couple married in 1996 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The former couple have two daughters, True and Sonnet Noel, 27.

In addition to True and Sonnet, Keisha has an older daughter named Autumn, 32, and Forest also has an older son named Ocean, 33, both from previous relationships.

Forest filed for divorce from Nash after 22 years of marriage in December 2018 and cited irreconcilable differences in his request, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE at the time.
