A TUI flight attendant has been rushed to hospital after falling from a plane at a UK airport.
An investigation has been launched into the horrific crash at East Midlands Airport at around 4.30pm on December 16.
It is believed that the flight attendant opened the plane’s door while the plane was preparing to take off.
She was thought to believe the steps were still attached, but they had already been removed.
A source told Nottinghamshire Live: “She opened the door, went outside and the stairs that were supposed to be there weren’t there for whatever reason.
– She fell on the asphalt and I heard that she was seriously injured.
An airport worker reported a similar story about the incident.
The flight attendant was rushed to the Queen’s Medical Center in Nottingham.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched an investigation into the incident.
A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 4.31pm on December 16 for a medical emergency at East Midlands Airport.
“We sent a paramedic in a solo ambulance and an ambulance. The air ambulance was also present.
“One patient was transported by ambulance to Queen’s Medical Center.”
A spokesman for the AAIB said: “The AAIB has been made aware of an accident which occurred at East Midlands Airport on Monday 16 December.
“An investigation has been launched and inspectors have visited the airport to gather evidence and carry out inquiries to find out more about the circumstances.”
EMA operations director Simon Hinchley said: “As the first medical team on the scene, our fire crews attended an incident on Monday when a TUI cabin crew member sustained injuries as the aircraft was preparing to take off.
“East Midlands Ambulance Service attended and took the injured crew member to hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery and will assist all parties with the investigation.”
