English TV personality Katie Piper is getting an “artificial eye” – almost 17 years after an acid attack left her partially blind.
41-year-old panelist for a British talk show Relaxed women announced the news on Instagram on Friday, January 10, writing that she had “come to the end [the] road somewhat, and the decision was made to try a prosthetic eyeball” after “many years of struggling with my eye health.”
“This marks the beginning of the journey to an artificial eye, with an amazing medical team behind me,” Piper wrote. “As always, I am incredibly grateful to everyone in the NHS [National Health Service] and the private healthcare system for their talent and kindness.”

Piper added that she will detail her “journey” and that she is “hopeful and nervous” about the change.
“[I] I’d love to hear from any of you in the comments if you’ve been on this trip or have any advice,” she concluded her caption, which came with a video of what appears to be her braces being fitted.
Piper’s latest health decision comes more than 16 years after an acid attack in March 2008 by her ex, which left her with severe burns and blindness in one eye. In the years since, she’s worked as a motivational speaker, TV host, started a foundation, and become an author—after publishing her debut memoir, beautiful, in 2011.

Several friends and fans commented on Piper’s post in support of her latest journey, including model Tanya Bardsley, actress Amy Jackson and journalist Ranvir Singh.
“Katie – the way you turn everything into a moment to teach others is awe-inspiring,” Singh wrote. “Your truth, courage, warmth, humor are equaled only by the strength of your spirit 🙏.”
Singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan also commented, writing that she “literally can’t” think of “words to describe” the TV personality. “Your energy goes beyond words, Spraggan wrote. “And so many people feel it. You are a miracle.”
In January 2022, Piper wrote that she was celebrating “one of the happiest times of her life” after being appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and recognized in the Queen’s New Year’s Honors list for services to charity and being a burn survivor.
