TV star left furious after their hit BBC quiz show is axed after EIGHT series

RICK Edwards has claimed he launched a one-man campaign to save his quiz show after it was unceremoniously axed.

Impossible ran from 2017 to 2021, with the presenter confirming in July 2022 that the BBC game had been axed after eight seasons on air.

However, that doesn’t mean the 44-year-old has given up on the concept just yet.

Now he has shared a ‘covert operation’ via memo to try and revive the series.

Posting on Instagram Stories, Rick shared a photo of the RadioTimes site, stating: “I write a letter to the Radio Times every week under the pseudonym ‘Sandie Hobley’ and they FINALLY print it!”

The letter read: “Am I alone in wondering why the BBC hasn’t commissioned more of Impossible, hosted by Rick Edwards, who now hosts the Breakfast Show (weekdays) and Fighting Talk (Saturdays) on Radio 5 Live?

“This has been the best new quiz format in years and I thoroughly enjoyed the early afternoon repeats on BBC2.”

“Without disparaging the newer quizzes in the slightest, their jokey runways and lights are so distracting that the quiz element is almost drowned out,” the writer continued.

“Please, please, BBC, bring this back as soon as possible – it’s worthy of an evening slot, but I hope it remains a shining star in the daytime schedules.”

It is not known if Rick is really Sandie Hobley from Sutton Coldfield or if he is just taking credit for the letter.

In any case, it is clear that he agrees with the statement.

The Impossible ran for 237 episodes – including 12 special celebrity episodes – with contestants battling it out for a maximum prize of £10,000.

Uniquely, each round contains questions where certain answer choices are considered “impossible” – or inconsistent within a given category.

In July 2022, Rick confirmed that the series was over, simply citing “the BBC in its infinite wisdom”.

Despite this, The Impossible remains a consistent show on the BBC’s daytime TV schedule.
