Two scary pit bulls huddled together in a shelter on their way to a brighter future

No reason was given, but when the owners released the two dogs into the shelter, they hugged each other in fear, not knowing what the future would hold.

Bridget and Louie, as they are now, were photographed after being admitted to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe, Texas last week. Little did they know that one day later they would begin their journey to a new life.

Both dogs showed signs of abandonment, scabs and shaggy coats. But they are clearly attached to each other, so the shelter decided to keep them together in their kennels.

Louie, a smaller, black dog, has a metal collar with spikes protruding from his neck. Bridget’s upper teeth are ground down to her gums and it looks like she’s had multiple litters. The condition of her teeth may have been the result of chewing on metal, such as chains.

Fighting dogs are also known to have a habit of filing the female’s teeth to avoid injuring the males during mating or if they are used as bait. It’s heartbreaking, whatever the cause.

Two dogs were rescued from a shelter by the Texas Animal Welfare Association. Their parents picked them up and they quickly drove to their makeshift home.

When the two arrive at the foster family’s home, the first thing they do is throw the couch out! Bridget loved it and was “finally satisfied and able to sleep”.

They enjoy the feeling of the sun hitting their faces as they relax on the porch. They make friends with their adopted brothers. Bridget’s tail won’t stop wagging no matter how many pictures her adoptive mother takes. And plenty of time to snuggle together, too.

The future is definitely brighter for Bridget and Louie. In fact, after further treatment and recovery, the two were adopted through the Texas Animal Society website!

Bridget is now 100% free of heartworm disease and has gone on to attend Canine Gօօd Citizen training. And Louie has become a “social butterfly”, enjoying dog daycare and making lots of friends! But the two are still each other’s favorites. They love to play together. And they love each other’s company.

Share the story of Bridget and Louie with your friends and help spread the word about the importance of animal adoption!
