Ty Olsson Expresses Gratitude for 'Love' and 'Kindness' Shown to Him and DJ Qualls After Engagement News

Ty Olsson is feeling the love after announcing his engagement Supernatural costar DJ Qualls.

On Thursday, May 16, a day after Qualls, 45, revealed the couple’s big news, Olsson, 50, said he was grateful for the “love” and “kindness” shown to him and his fiance in a post on X ( formerly known as Cvrkut).

“Thank you everyone for all the love, support and kindness today,” he said with a classic smiley: “:).”

“Sending you all some love and hugs,” he added.

Qualls announced that he and Olsson’s friendship became something more on the Wednesday, May 15 episode of his show Locked and probably loaded podcast with Kelly Blackheart.

He said he and Olsson clicked immediately, telling co-host Blackheart: “Ty and I became inseparable at the very beginning, right away. And over the last 10 years, our relationship has evolved to what it is today, and now we’re getting married.”

Also during the podcast, Qualls (who played the werewolf Garth on Supernatural) recalled the first time he crossed paths with his fiance (who played vampire Benny) at a convention for the CW series.

He said the actors “didn’t know each other at all,” and their actual meeting at a fan gathering wasn’t exactly where sparks first flew.

“We may have said three words together on Supernatural convention, and then after that we went to London for four or five days,” he recalled. “And then I went to Turkey with a friend – and he’s such a clean, awesome guy. He came up to us – we all came out as a group – and said, ‘Can I come with you on your journey?’ ”

Qualls called his now-fiancé’s move “insane” and added, “I could never refer to someone else’s journey.”

“Because I would be afraid that they would reluctantly say yes, and then they wouldn’t want me there anymore,” he continued. “But it was so clean and shiny, and that’s the way he is. I didn’t know him. And that was the beginning of our friendship.”

Reflecting on how their relationship became what it is today, he added: “It’s just crazy that this person who was just my friend, now thinks about me all the time and sends the best messages, supports me and loves me unconditionally in the right way. ”

Qualls also said he believes “unconditional love” comes with a mutual understanding that “you treat that person with some respect and that their best interests are your best interests,” which he noted was evident in Olsson’s relationship with him.

“Ty was the first person in my whole life, my whole life that [I] ever had with it,” he said. “I’m just saying friend. [He is] the best friend I’ve ever had, and now we’re going to be old men together, which is so crazy.”
