A cute Hallmark date can usually look like running into a Christmas tree farm, mixing up coffee orders at the local coffee shop, or falling in love with the stranger you shared a cab with. But off-screen, Hallmark fans have tried to DM their photos with the network’s stars.
“We have to be careful, to be quite honest,” Tyler Hynes tells PEOPLE in a joint interview with his Three wise men and a boy actors Paul Campbell and Andrew Walker. “The internet is a bit wild in terms of fake accounts and scammers, and the people who come on this network are so lovely and vulnerable that they come on this network. So we have to be very diligent and careful with how we go about things to protect our audience in terms of being taken advantage of.”

Campbell, 45, says the messages he receives from fans are “all so beautiful”.
“They always go along the lines of, ‘I love this movie for this reason,’ or, ‘I was going through this and I found this in the movie that comforted me,'” the father of the 8-year-old’s son Kingston says. “It’s just 100 and 100 people who support what we’re doing. It’s quite nice.
Hynes, 38, says he, Campbell and Walker, 45, run the group chat, where “our DMs are a mess.”
Campbell agrees, “It’s a disaster,” agrees Campbell.

Hallmark has a reputation as a women’s network, but with male-led movies Three wise men and a baby and The Godfathersdo you see the shift?
TYLER HYNES: Yeah, there’s a balance to it all that I think is really nice. I love that this network is very focused on women. I always have. Godfathersthere are many, many different people in the cast that the story is actually told through and for. And inside Wise menit’s really about our mother. What these movies do best is when they explore new themes that may not have been done before, I think Wise men it does it incredibly well.
ANDREW WALKER: I think people want variety. The variety in the stories that Hallmark tells now is incredible. There is something for everyone. The majority of viewers on this network are women. So we were surprised by the reaction people had with the first one Three wise menand we are glad to do it again.
PAUL CAMPBELL: Yeah, I think if you can tell stories that are fun and engaging regardless of who’s steering the ship, we’ll be back for more. I think we found something really great, really fun with the first one. Let’s hope we can live up to it. We definitely bring the silliness.
What is your most memorable or craziest interaction with a fan over the years?
CAMPBELL: I met a woman at Christmas Con in New Jersey last year, and her sister was in the hospital for about a year. She was an otherwise very healthy woman in her early 50s, and one day she was out jogging and suddenly lost all function. Her nervous system just shut down. She was in the hospital. And this woman said, “My sister would give anything to be here,” but in the past year, she’s had, the first Hallmark movie I’ve ever done, Window wonderland on repeat in the hospital. And every time she wakes up, the only thing that brings her comfort is watching this movie. I was really excited. This is proof of the comfort these films bring to people. There’s this eternal positivity and eternal hope in these movies, and you see it reflected back to you by fans around the world. Sometimes it’s pretty devastating.
ANDREW WALKER: Every Christmas scam there are women, men, retired Cancer, widows. A woman came to my table with her three sisters and their mother, and the mother said she had celebrated her 40th birthday. They took her from the hospice to come see me. And three years later, that same woman came back and she actually had a heart transplant and she made it through and she was completely transformed. These are stories we get all the time.
HYNES: Someone put their number in my pocket yesterday.
CAMPBELL: That was me.
HYNES: Oh, that was you?
CAMPBELL: Yes, but I’m a big fan.
These movies are comforting to many viewers—what’s your version of a Hallmark movie, the one you seek solace in every part of your life?
WALKER: I read the DMs they send me.
HYNES: I hug them both or imagine myself hugging them.
CAMPBELL: How does it feel to hug me in your imagination?
HYNES: It feels warm.
CAMPBELL: It’s just a wall of muscle.
HYNES: He seems like he has a lot of hands. There are a lot of weapons.
CAMPBELL: Is it too much? You would tell me, wouldn’t you?
HYNES: And then it matches Drew’s muscles. His solid body.
CAMPBELL: I will give you a serious answer. I love spending time with my son. It brings me comfort and joy. I give him a little hug and it grounds me.
HYNES: I sniff my dog’s Cheeto paws.
WALKER: Yes, children, wife, family. It brings comfort.
HYNES (according to WALKER): Sometimes he nibbles.
WALKER: A good facial comforts me.
CAMPBELL: A good sound bath.
WALKER: Yes, a sound bath!
HYNES: Don’t light it.

In what ways do you feel you are wiser or have grown since making the last film?
HYNES: I feel like I’m getting dumber every day. Your?
CAMPBELL: I feel like Tyler is getting dumber every day too.
WALKER: I listen to podcasts while making breakfast. I feel like I’m getting smarter every day.
CAMPBELL: Two years have passed since the first one. My son is now 8 years old, you grow up just to be a parent of a child. You learn something new every day. I feel a little more tired than two years ago, but I feel smarter.
HYNES: You look beautiful.
CAMPBELL: Thanks guys.
HYNES: Did you have a good bath? Is that why you look so good?
CAMPBELL: No. Not.
WALKER: You have to continuously work on yourself. Paul, he is an inspiration. Honestly, this guy changed his life in so many ways. His work ethic, the way he parents, the way he takes care of himself…
CAMPBELL: Thank you, my friend.
WALKER: And he is also humble.
It’s obvious the three of you have spent a lot of time together, but is there anything you’ve learned about each other recently that surprised you?
CAMPBELL: I was surprised that Tyler owns the suit. It just surprises us at every turn.
WALKER: I’m going to pump up this guy’s tires a bit. It amazes me how good these guys are. For example, there is the woman I met at the Christmas market. She said she flew in with her daughters and her daughters came up to the table and they said, “Oh, we were on the same flight as Tyler.” And the daughter says, “Tyler gave my mom his business class ticket. He just said, ‘Do you want to sit up here?’” And in fact, he switched seats and sat next to the girls on the flight to New Jersey. Like, who is this guy?
CAMPBELL: She has never flown business class. And he switched places.
WALKER: He’s not here tweeting about it or taking pictures, telling the world, but these moments and stories are truly amazing. I’m surprised, but not surprised. It’s amazing to be with guys like this and to be reminded that we can all be a little better every day.
HYNES: They assume I’m cold and dead inside, so it was a bit of a shock.

The three wise men are known for bringing gifts to baby Jesus. What is the best gift you have given and who did you give it to?
WALKER: I gave Jesus to the child.
HYNES: What?
WALKER: Little toy Jesus.
HYNES: Baby?
WALKER: Yes, like a stuffed Jesus.
CAMPBELL: That’s a good gift.
WALKER: Actually, that’s a lie. I’m lying.
CAMPBELL: He invented everything.
HYNES: That’s my boy.
WALKER: I went back home to Montreal for Christmas where I surprised my parents. They didn’t think I would make it back from Los Angeles, so that was pretty special.
CAMPBELL: That’s really nice. you know what When I was growing up, my dad had a workshop out back and he made furniture. He was an amateur woodworker. And for Christmas one year I made my mom – and she still has it – the ugliest little jewelry box. I feel like it was inspired by a Tim Burton movie. It’s this weird corner chest of drawers and drawers. To this day, it is full of her jewelry. He sits proudly. Every time I go in, I’m like, “Oh, man, that’s bad.” But I think I was maybe 13 or 14, I was very proud of it.
WALKER: I feel like your mom is keeping a bunch of stuff like that from you.
CAMPBELL: My mom gave me a bag of teeth about six months ago. She says, “These are your teeth that have all fallen out. Do you want these?” I said, “No.”
HYNES: I want that. That’s a gift you can give me. It’s the best gift you’ve ever given.
CAMPBELL: Oh no, I immediately threw them in the trash.
HYNES: What about you? Why would you do that? It was a gift from your mother.
CAMPBELL: They were my own teeth.
HYNES: Think of the time she spent keeping those smelly things.

Paul and Andrew, do you feel that you are keeping everything from your children now? Do you have a supply of teeth?
WALKER: Yes, and I swore I wouldn’t be that kind of parent. There are these great printing places where you can go and send all your kids’ artwork in a box and they will digitize it. You can now keep it like that and throw it all away, which is great because there’s only so much you can keep. I am asking my children now. I tell them to say, “Okay, what do you consider your best piece of art?”
CAMPBELL: Yes, what are the hits? What will we be able to sell one day in the future?
WALKER: Yes. That’s it.
HYNES: And criticize yourself. “This macaroni necklace? Not so good.”
CAMPBELL: This finger painting is not like me. You missed the jaw line a bit.
WALKER: Everything that is like a minimalist style. There must be something more than birds and water.
HYNES: Put some shading.
WALKER: Yes, a submarine.
HYNES: Realistically.
