On Monday, the model, mom, business woman and television host celebrated her birthday with a series of makeup-free selfies she shared on Instagram.

Alongside her fresh-faced photos, which show the star dressed in a gray cape and voluminous curls, the former American top model The presenter wrote a letter to her fans about what turning 50 means to her.

“I can’t believe I’ve been on this earth for so many years. I remember like it was yesterday my mom’s 50th birthday and we celebrated her in the biggest way. It was a big one. And now it’s mine,” Banks began her caption.

The actress addressed aging, sympathizing with others who are “scared of aging.”

“But I have to say that my mind is STRONGER THAN EVER. Wise, honey,” Banks stated. “I think we have to look at aging and these big milestones as, ‘I WILL GET TO THAT AGE.’ Blessing.”

She continued her reflection with an empowering message for others. “If you are younger than me, I HOPE you get to be my age and MORE. Because it feels bloody good,” she said, then joked, “(What’s not so good is the bloody sciatica I got from falling in the scene in Natural size 2!!!)”

Calling herself “Aunt Ty Ty,” Banks also offered “words of wisdom” for others who may feel like they’re in crisis. “You don’t have to stay stuck. You can start doing one thing, and as the years go by, you change that thing,” she wrote, referring to her own career path.

She also said that the only time she will truly look at herself in the mirror is when she is perfecting her poses before a red carpet event.

“I look in the mirror and find two or three best poses. I study the poses in the mirror and then I close my eyes and try to recreate the poses without seeing myself,” she told PEOPLE StyleWatch. “I do this because there are no mirrors on the red carpet, so you really need to know the best angles in the clothes by heart! Of course, I tend to forget by the time I get to the red carpet event. Well, high five for effort.”
