Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou LIVE RESULT: Fury DROPPED to canvas by MMA star in shock main event – updates

More than Fury

A shocked Tyson Fury said: “That was definitely not in the script. Francis is a hell of a fighter.

“He’s strong, he’s a big puncher and a much better boxer than we thought he’d ever be.”

The 35-year-old added: “He’s a very tricky man and he’s a very good batsman.

Ringside fight report

Tyson Fury had to climb off the canvas and rely on the judges to save his £150m Fight of the Century and an undisputed world heavyweight title decider with Oleksandr Usyk.

Gypsy King was knocked down by the African Adonis in the third, badly injured by the debutant in professional boxing and seemed destined for complete disaster.

But he was saved by the shocking judges who somehow called a one-sided showdown: 95-94 Ngannou, 96-93 Fury and 95-94 Fury.

Opinions

We all have one! Lennox Lewis is convinced the right decision was made, while Carl Frampton says Francis Ngannou deserved the decision.

Lewis: “I felt Tyson Fury won, he was throwing a lot of punches. Ngannou surprised me. Showing composure and patience, waiting for that perfect opportunity.”

Frampton: “I thought Francis won that fight. I couldn’t believe what I was watching. We chose Tyson rationally, Francis is coming into his first boxing match, how could he win? In my eyes he won the fight. Fury fought with his style . We thought Francis was going to come in and swing. He boxed beautifully.”

Revenge?

In one word? Not. Tyson Fury reiterates that there is no rematch clause in his contract, and is instead turning his attention to Oleksandr Usyk – although December 23 looks unlikely given the damage Fury suffered tonight.

He said: “There’s no rematch clause. I’d like to do it again later, but we have to deal with Usyk. That’s what’s next for us.”

I can bite

Francis Ngannou was extremely gracious in defeat, almost too gracious in all his honesty.

He said: “I feel great, fantastic. It didn’t go my way, I might get beaten today, I might get hurt, but I can bite. We can do it again and I’m sure I’ll be better. This was my first boxing match , great experience.

“I won’t make excuses, I know I was short, but I will come back with a little more experience in the game.

“At first I was a little nervous, now I know I can do this s***. The wolf is in the house. Had to feel the water tonight, and now I know the temperature.

“I came out after a long recovery and surgery, three and a half months. I worked hard and did my best. I know myself. We will get together with my team and what we can do next to improve my game.”

That was definitely not in the script

Several whistles echoed through the arena when the decision was announced. I can see why.

Tyson Fury ignores them and continues with his interview instead.

Fury said: “It was definitely not in the script. He is a much better boxer than we thought he would be.

“He’s a very tricky man, and he hits well, and I have a lot of respect for him. He was very clumsy, he did not come forward; he waited for me to throw my punches and then looked for a counter.

“That’s part of boxing [the knockdown], I grabbed the back of my head again. I got up and it was fine; I went back to my pit.

“I don’t know how close it was, but I got the win and that’s it. I was out of the ring again for a long time. You can see it here – ring rust, all of it. No excuses though. He cut me in the eye there. It was a good, hard fight. Perfect.”
