Ulysses Campos, a 9-year-old Chicago resident, was shot and killed while attending his grandmother’s birthday party in the 2800 block of Elder Lane, Franklin Park, Illinois. On Saturday, July 8, 2023, at around 10:15 p.m., an incident occurred. When four to six shots were fired from a moving vehicle at a group of children playing with other children at a party, he was playing with them. Ulysses Campos was hit by a hail of bullets and was sent to Loyola Hospital in Maywood to be treated for a gunshot wound to the chest. He died that same night from his wound around 11 o’clock. The only one injured by the shots was Campos.

The Franklin Park Police Department and the Western Suburbs Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the homicide of Ulysses Campos on the night of Saturday, July 8, 2023. Investigating agencies reportedly located the vehicle from which the shots were fired. It was located in the municipality of Leyden, which was not registered. According to CBS, the Franklin Park Police Department also located and detained a person of interest in the case along with the vehicle. The identity of the person has not yet been revealed.
