Parvez Rasool is the captain of his team. After winning the toss, he elected to bowl first on the green wicket at the Aroor Cricket Ground (Bengaluru). Railways started well, losing a wicket and scoring 104 runs. In the 14th over, Umran dismissed captain Karn Sharma cleanly. Three balls later, he grabbed his second wicket in the form of Mrunal Devdar. A few overs later, he took another wicket in the 16th over. Thus, in his four overs, he completed his innings with 24 runs for three wickets at an economy of six runs per over. After the game, Parvez Rasool, who has played two international matches for India, said:

“He’s a really good talent with the potential to go far. In the Nets, he would regularly hit hitters on the helmet. He will definitely improve further as time goes on.”

When Umran came into this game, Irfan Pathan was the mentor of his team. His coach Randall said,

“Irrfan was a top fast bowler and he saw the potential in Umran and they started mentoring young cricketers which boosted his confidence.”

Pathan was the first to start developing this talent at the next level. He and the team’s head coach Milap Mewada want to give him maximum time to prepare for the upcoming games. But amid protests in Kashmir against the imposition of Article 370 in the region, the state was plunged into curfew. As a result, the entire training camp was suspended pending further orders and players were sent back to their homes. JKCA CEO Syed Ashiq Bukhari then took charge of leading the players to the training camp. He directed the district police to personally visit each player’s home and bring them safely to the camp. A few months after arriving in the camp, Umran played his first 50-over Group A match against Bangladesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match at the Videocon Academy Stadium in Kolkata on February 22, 2021 . He failed to bowl as expected, conceding 98 runs in ten overs with an economy rate of 9.8. Despite this, he managed to grab a wicket. Jammu lost the match by 82 runs. Soon after being selected as a net bowler in IPL 2021, he was seen troubling their star batsman David Warner with his raw pace, Pathan later said,
