Usher’s 2024 Super Bowl Glow Was Thanks to These Products (Exclusive)

Usher’s Super Bowl 2024 Halftime Performance at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11th captured so many of our emotions.

From the moment he appeared on stage, the star – who belted out several hits in a matter of minutes – shone. And we’re not just talking about the shine on his Dolce & Gabbana and Off-White pieces.

The star’s skin was also glowing, and Lola Okanlawon, the music icon’s groomer and makeup artist, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about their game day preparations.

Pro worked with Usher for “about three years” starting just before the award-winning artist’s first Las Vegas residency began. Okanlawon calls collaborating on his Super Bowl look “an exciting experience.”

Of getting the call for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (well, three times, if you’re Usher), Okanlawon says she was “overjoyed and felt incredibly lucky! Being a part of his most significant career milestone not only validated me, but also showed his unwavering confidence in my artistic abilities and expertise, which means the world to me!”

We, like Usher, have no doubt that Okanlawon — who is a makeup and grooming expert, and who pays close attention to her clients and the environment(s) they perform in — knows her stuff.

“For men’s grooming, the essential elements are color correction and well-prepared skin,” explains Okanlawon. “These factors allow me to create a refined and confident look for Usher, allowing him to excel in his profession and adapt effortlessly whether he’s performing or appearing. During this process, I ensure that its appearance remains authentic to the beloved image that we all recognize and admire.”

That said, when it comes to Usher, she has an amazing canvas to start with.

The professional describes him as a “dream client” in every sense of the word. As you might expect, she says, “His skin is incredibly smooth, flawless and in excellent condition. It is obvious that he keeps it with great care!”

To create Usher’s game day look, the duo started getting ready at noon and used Danucera products.

“I started with a shaping stone to help with lymphatic drainage, followed by Danucera’s Cerabalm to clear the skin,” says Okanlawon. The professional calls the cleansing balm her “MVP product” because it “doesn’t deprive the skin of moisture, it leaves it clean and refreshed.[Thisisabio-productthathasundergoneaseriesofproceduresinordertoeffectivelyremovetheproductsfromtheexternalstepsandstartitsskintotherightfinish.

After cleansing, “I prepped his under-eye area with Iconic Eye Cream followed by cooling patches. After that, I used the D22 toner around the outer part of my face to tone and promote smooth and glowing skin. Finally, I used Cream Supreme to moisturize because I like how it makes the skin feel soft before I apply the color to my skin.”

Danassa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder is applied next “for a flawless complexion due to its natural matte finish and ability to absorb sweat and oil,” says Okanlawon. She completed the look with Caudalie’s cult classic Beauty Elixir, which the pro describes as a “gentle and soothing mist” that “helps him relax before he goes on stage,” as well as La Mer’s make-up artist-loved lip balm.

Okanlawon also prepped Usher’s skin from the neck down for his much-hyped shirtless moment using Kiehls Creme de Corps “to keep the skin glowing and hydrated” as well as a light layer of Danucera Cerabalm to boost his glow under the spotlight.

As the pro prepared his megastar client, she says, he in turn “filled the room with timeless classics, radiating positivity and fully embracing the present moment. Usher brings so much energy to our work! That’s one of the things I really admire about him.”

Okanlawon not only had the good fortune to prepare Usher’s skin, but also watched the performance from the sidelines. “I watched the show from the 50-yard line and the quick-change area. Her one-word review: “amazing!”

She adds: “He is one of the best performers of my generation.”

After the amazing performance, Usher returned to Okanlawon’s chair for some TLC. After cleansing with Cerabalm, the professional “applied a soothing hot towel, moisturizing serum and Cream Supreme, a highly nourishing moisturizer. These steps help rejuvenate and hydrate his skin, ensuring it stays in optimal condition,” she says.

Of their work together, Okanlawon says, “Usher is not only friendly and easy to work with, but also has extensive knowledge on a variety of subjects. I really appreciate our opportunity to introduce each other to new products for his skin care routine, and he engages in wonderful conversations!”

And while his new song might be called “Good Good,” what he accomplished on that stage was nothing short of great.
