VV Vinayak is an Indian film director, scriptwriter, writer and actor who has appeared in many films. He is one of the most famous directors in Tollywood. In 2023, he entered Bollywood with his directorial company Chatrapathi. He is considered one of the first directors to include a car flipping scene in a film.

Gandrothu Veera Venkata Vinayaka Rao aka VV Vinayak Rao (also spelled VV Vinayak) was born in Chagallu village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. According to one source, he was born on Thursday, October 9, 1969 (age 54; as of 2023), and according to another source, he was born on Wednesday, October 9, 1974 (age 49; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Libra. He completed his secondary education in his grandmother’s village, Dommeru. He has been interested in movies since he was a child and watched many movies in his father’s cinema. After completing his studies, he convinced his father to move to Chennai and venture into filmmaking. Later he did many Telugu films.

In 1993, he started working as an assistant under the famous film director EVV Satyanarayana and shot the film “Abbayigaru”. Later, he worked under director Sagar and participated in several films, including 1995’s “Amma Donga”. In 2000, he worked as an assistant in director SV Krishna Reddy’s film Sakutumba Saparivara Sametam. In 2000, he also shot the film “9 Nelalu” under the guidance of director Kranthi Kumar.

He co-directed the film Varma Garu Bewarse Gaadu with Bellamkonda Suresh for Rs 10,000, but the film was later shelved; however, Suresh was impressed by Vinayak and promised to make him a director. Later he met the film producer Nallamalupu Bujji and told him a story which Bujji liked and he then took Vinayak to Switzerland to shoot a song for his film Cheppalani Vundi where he met NT Rama Rao Jr. who Eventually she acted in Vinayak’s debut film. NTR initially gave Vinayak 20 minutes to narrate the story of the film; however, he became so interested that he listened to the story for 1.5 hours.

Director, writer and screenwriter
He made his debut as a director and screenwriter with the 2002 action film “Aadi”, starring NT Rama Rao Jr. and Keerthi Chawla. The film was a box office hit and critics praised his directorial skills. His debut as a director and screenwriter was 2003’s Tagore, starring Chiranjeevi, Jyothika, Prakash Raj and Shriya Saran.

He later directed many hit films including “Bunny” starring Allu Arjun in 2005, “Lakshmi” starring Venkatesh in 2006, “Yogi” starring Prabhas and Nayanthara in 2007, and “Yogi” starring Ravi Teja and Trisha in 2010. ‘Krishna’, 2010’s ‘Adhurs’ starring NT Rama Rao Jr., 2010’s ‘Naayak’ starring NT Rama Rao Jr., 2010 starring Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal, 2017 starring Chiranjeevi and Kajal Aggarwal Khaidi No. 150.

In 2014, he directed the film Alludu Seenu, the debut film of Bellamkonda Sreenivas, the famous film producer Bellamkonda ·Son of Bellamkonda Suresh, Vinayak’s directorial debut “Aadi” was also produced by him. He took a break after 2018 and returned in 2023 with the Hindi film Chatrapathi, starring Bellamkonda Sreenivas and Nushrratt Bharuccha.

In 2003, he made his debut in the film Tagore and played a cameo role as Gopi. In 2019, it was announced that she would play the lead role in the film Seenayya directed by Dil Raju; however, the project was later shelved. He mainly made guest appearances in many movies.

Facts/Trivia
- He owned many properties, including mansions and theaters. His father named one of his seven theaters, Veera Venkata Vinayaka Talkies, after him.
- In 2013, he directed Jeevandan, a film about organ donation.
- He wrote the entire script of his debut film Aadi in 48 hours. In the movie, his name was called Vinay, so when he started using his full name VV Vinayak, many people did not recognize him. The film was originally titled “Sree” and was shot in 54 days.

- In 2019, he received an invitation to contest the YSR Assembly elections; however, he declined the offer as he did not want to contest the elections.
- He shares a brotherly bond with Chiranjeevi and often calls him brother. He also serves as the club president of Chiranjeevi Fans Association.

- In June 2019, his house in Narsingi was demolished by the authorities as it had permission for G+2 floors; however, he built G+6 floors. Notices were also sent to him before but he did not respond to any of them.
- When he started working in Tollywood, he considers Ram Gopal Varma, Raghavendra Rao and SS Rajamouli as his biggest influences.

- In an interview, he called his film Badrinath, starring Allu Arjun and Tamannaah, the most difficult film to shoot as it was shot in a hilly area.
